Truly Scrumptious

Bakeoffs, baristas, burgers and breweries. Ticking all the boxes a food lover could possibly want.

The delightfully-sounding Taste&Tackle Scrumptious Food Festival will deliver a dazzling line-up of treats for food lovers in a unique day-long food festival to coincide with the Rugby World Cup in Newcastle on October 1.

A marquee at the Fanzone near St James’ Park will be the venue for a food frenzy that will see action throughout the day from suppliers, chefs, producers and players.

Meet the Shreddies’ Knitting Nana as you sip on some Yorkshire Tea.

See what the fishing boats bring in from Amble harbour and watch chefs work their seafood magic with inspiring cookery demonstrations.

Let the little ones work up a hunger on the Fun Island with penalty shoot-outs and fitness circuits.

Then watch the experts in action with skilful sugarcraft and baking demos worthy of those Bake-off folks.

During the day the region’s best young chefs will be competing for the NECTA Young Chef of the Year accolade – which promises to be every bit as exciting as an episode of MasterChef as they race against the clock to create showpiece dishes.

But alongside these demonstrations you’ll also be able to sample some of the best food offerings from the region’s producers large and small.

Not only will you be able to wake up and smell the coffee you’ll be able to sample it and see the barista’s flash their art.

Mixologists will be there too shaking up cocktails to sample and talented artisan suppliers will be adding their flavour with tangy chutneys and tempting traybakes.

There will be plenty of fun with a rugby theme and an emphasis on healthy eating and inspiring ideas for everything from family suppers to gourmet dinners. You might even find yourself mingling with some familiar faces from the worlds of football and rugby celebrating the event.

Tickets for the event are free but you will need to register.
