Khai Khai and Pink Lane Bakery launch Curry Pie Club

Food lovers are in for a treat as Khai Khai and Pink Lane Bakery join forces to create the ultimate comfort food just in time for the colder months. Think Khai Khai’s signature curries wrapped in Pink Lane Bakery’s artisan pastry.

Launching on Sunday 25 October, the collaboration marks a new chapter for Khai Khai’s Curry Pie Club, with five curry fillings available to choose from £20 per person, and takeaway available for the first time.

The partnership pairs Pink Lane Bakery’s expertise in traditional baking and pastry with Khai Khai’s signature approach to smoke, spice and flavour. Together, the two Newcastle independents are giving a familiar comfort-food favourite an innovative twist.

Joining the menu is a new signature Tandoori Broccoli pie, inspired by Khai Khai’s much-loved restaurant dish. Completely vegan, the addition follows requests from diners for both a plant-based pie and a filling celebrating one of the restaurant’s favourite dishes.

Guests can also choose from Old Delhi Butter Chicken, Lamb Roganjosh, Kheema Matar and Vegetable Jalfrezi. Priced at £20 per person, the menu includes pappads and chutneys, a choice of pie, two sides and a sauce. Guests can add dessert for a further £5, making it an inviting option for a relaxed Sunday lunch with family or friends.

Emman Orbeta, Restaurant Manager at Khai Khai, said:

“Curry Pie Club has always been about bringing together two things we love: a great British pie and the comforting flavours of Indian cooking. As the weather gets colder, a freshly baked pie filled with a warming curry feels like the perfect Sunday lunch.

“We’ve been keen to work with other like-minded local independents, and Pink Lane Bakery felt like a natural fit. Their expertise in pastry brings something really special to the pies, and it’s been lovely to combine that with Khai Khai’s signature bold flavours.

“We’re particularly excited about the Tandoori Broccoli pie. It’s something our guests have been asking for, so we’re pleased to introduce it alongside a new price that makes Curry Pie Club even more accessible.”

Established in 2012, Pink Lane Bakery has become a familiar part of Newcastle’s independent food scene, known for its handmade breads, pastries and savoury bakes.

As part of the collaboration, the bakery will also sell a limited number of the pies across its shops on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 October, giving customers a further opportunity to try the new offering.

Jonny McHale, Catering Manager at Pink Lane Bakery said:

“Here at Pink Lane Bakery, we’re thrilled to be working with Khai Khai on their Curry Pie Club, supplying our artisan pastry to help bring this exciting collaboration to life.

“As two independent Newcastle businesses, we’re proud to support each other, champion local talent and help our city’s brilliant food scene thrive! If you haven’t tried the butter chicken or their famous broccoli, you’re in for an absolute treat!”

The refreshed Curry Pie Club will be available every Sunday from 12 noon to 4.30pm at Khai Khai on Newcastle’s Quayside. For the first time, the pies will also be available to take away, with collection from the restaurant during the same Sunday hours.
