From cult classics to blockbuster hits

Wednesday evenings will once again feature a special 6pm screening curated by Tyneside Cinema. The independent cinema has selected a mix of cult classics, critically acclaimed films and hidden gems, with titles including Labyrinth and Robot Dreams.

Meanwhile, Blockbuster Thursdays return with some of the year’s biggest cinema releases, alongside films celebrating music legends Bruce Springsteen and Elvis Presley, giving visitors even more reasons to pull up a deckchair after work.

The programme concludes on 30 August with two audience favourites chosen by the public. Scooby-Doo: Spooky Island will be shown at 12pm, followed by Mamma Mia! at 3pm.

More than just the movies

Before the main film schedule begins, visitors can enjoy a week of special programming from 13 to 19 July.

Morning screenings will feature favourites including Bluey and In the Night Garden, while timeless classics such as Singin’ in the Rain and Roman Holiday will also take to the screen. Daily episodes of Blue Planet will complete the daytime programme.

On 15 July, NE1 will also partner with the Joint Ex-Servicemen’s Association of the North East for a commemorative screening of Queen Elizabeth II: Her Story, Our Century, marking what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday year.

Returning for a second year as headline partner, Fentimans will once again bring themed activations, giveaways and interactive experiences to Old Eldon Square throughout the summer.
