£30,000 raised for The People’s Kitchen in Newcastle

The friendly folk at Sintons Law Firm have been working hard to raise funds for The People’s Kitchen…

The charity

North East law firm, Sintons has surpassed its fundraising target for The People’s Kitchen, a Newcastle-based charity which supports homeless and vulnerable people in the city. Over the past two years, they have raised more than £30,000 through a huge variety of events, surpassing the original target of £25,000.

The fundraising

The most recent fundraising event was a five-a-side football tournament, attended by staff, clients and their friends and families, which raised more than £3,000.

One of the biggest events in the fundraising calendar is the annual trainee solicitors’ challenge, which involves the trainees taking on a tough physical challenge – last summer, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge which involved climbing Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), in under 12 hours.

Quiz nights, dog walks and netball matches have also contributed to the total amount raised, and Sintons’ trainees and apprentices delivered handmade cakes and treats to colleagues’ desks in return for donations.

Managing Partner Christopher Welch said: “Our people ensure that everyone can get involved in the fundraising. From baking to dog walking, there’s something for everyone as we know that everyone wants to play their part.

“Since 1985, The People’s Kitchen has provided practical support, friendship and a safe haven for countless numbers of our city’s most vulnerable people. We hope our donation will support the vital work the charity does, especially at a time when people need it more than ever.”

David Pritchard, Head of Marketing and chair of Sintons’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) committee, added: “Every two years we support a different charity chosen by our people and, since 2022, we’ve been raising money to help The People’s Kitchen provide food, clothing and toiletries for homeless and vulnerable people.

“It’s a charity which is so important to our city and which make a huge difference to so many people.”
