Kids Rule! at Warkworth Castle

Start June in the North East with a family day out at Warkworth Castle. Adults and children alike marvel at the scale and magnificence of the medieval ruins. History will be brought to life before your very eyes as you are transported through the history of Warkworth Castle and its rulers with interactive storytelling.

Discover how medieval castles worked, royal etiquette and the realities of the medieval courts. Enrol in Sword School and find out if you can successfully defend this mighty castle from would-be usurpers. Kids Rule! is a fitting and unmissable end to the May half-term holidays.

Summer Archaeology at The Auckland Project

3 – 22 June

History is full of intriguing stories, like the man who bought a castle and then blew up a chapel. The remains of a grand medieval chapel are being excavated from the ground in Bishop Auckland right now, and it presents a unique chance to witness the recovery of history in real time.

Visit the archaeological dig, free of charge, and watch archaeologists from Durham University uncover the story of this long-lost chapel.

Macbeth at Sunderland Empire

For one night only Sunderland’s Empire Theatre welcomes a compelling retelling of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy. Whether it is your first time experiencing the dramatic treachery of Macbeth or you’re well versed in his murderous ambition, multi-award-winning theatre group Out of Chaos promises to deliver a gripping and powerful rendition of this classic.

To top off an already incredible night, following the performance the actors will offer any audience members who wish to stay a 30-minute question and answer session.

Bite Back for Cancer Research UK at Wylam Brewery

Charity is good for your soul, and thanks to Bite Back for Cancer Research 2024, it’s also become good for your stomach. Wylam Brewery invites you to their first-ever food festival in the North East on Sunday 9 June.

15 Michelin star chefs from across the UK will prepare some incredible street food to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Any opportunity to raise awareness and money for such a vital organisation should be welcomed, so come one, come all!

Copper Rose Making Course at South Causey Inn
