What You’ll Need

  • Photocopier paper
  • Printer
  • Wooden cube
  • Mod Podge (an all-in-one glue, sealer and varnish)
  • Small paintbrush
  • Clean cloth

Method

  • Select four of your favourite images to print out. You will need to size each one to fit onto a cube face and print it as a mirror image so that it transfers correctly. To do this, flip the image in your photo editing software of choice, resize it and print out onto regular photocopier paper.
  • Spread a layer of Mod Podge over the wooden surface of one of the cube’s faces.
  • Lay your first image print-side down over the block, making sure its edges are lined up correctly. Press it down firmly onto the Mod Podge-covered surface.
  • Leave to dry for around 30 minutes then spread a thin layer of Mod Podge over each face to seal the images in place.
  • Let it dry for about 30 minutes.
  • Wet your cloth under a tap until it’s damp but not soaking. Use the cloth to gently rub the paper away from the surface of the block. The paper will come away, leaving the image on the block, in a similar way to a temporary tattoo transfer.
  • Keep rubbing until all of the paper has come away from the image. You may even be able to peel some of the paper away with your fingers.
  • Repeat the previous steps for the remaining three images.
  • Leave to dry for around 30 minutes then spread a thin layer of Mod Podge over each face to seal the images in place.
  • If you want to create a Valentine’s inspired square for the top of your block, simply choose a piece of card with a suitable design, cut to size, glue in place using Mod Podge and set aside to dry for 30 minutes.
  • Enjoy gifting your wooden cube to someone special.
