Life Awarded Gold For Boosting Staff Health And Wellbeing

Newcastle’s Centre for Life (Life) has struck gold after scooping a major award for its commitment to boost staff health and wellbeing

Recognised for its commitment to putting staff first, Life has been awarded the Gold Better Health at Work Award.

Life earned Gold for ongoing workplace health initiatives, building on its 2022 Silver accreditation, acknowledging efforts to promote healthy lifestyles.

Life developed its wellbeing strategy through staff consultation, focusing on four core areas: physical, mental, financial, and social wellbeing. As well as improving morale, the initiatives contribute to lowering levels of absenteeism and increasing productivity.

Initiatives championed by Life over the last year include exercise sessions and massages, financial support webinars, stress management podcasts and sleep awareness sessions.

Life’s team also enjoys extra time off for wellbeing, free health checks, and chances to contribute to future campaigns.

Life Chief Executive Linda Conlon said: “People are our greatest asset. It’s a no brainer that creating a workplace culture that values the health and happiness of our team reaps rewards.

“This approach not only benefits the team but also the experience we provide for our visitors.”

Workplace specialists in the NHS, in collaboration with Public Health North East, developed the Better Health at Work Award to foster health and wellbeing initiatives in the workplace.

In awarding the accolade, the assessor stated: “Life has made concerted efforts to embed health and wellbeing through policy, procedure, and practice. Life firmly places health and wellbeing on its agenda, offering numerous opportunities for consultation and ensuring that it hears and addresses employee voices. Well done and congratulations to all involved.”

Life has also signed up for the NHS Charter for Employers Positive about Mental Health. In doing so, it encourages open and supportive discussion of mental health issues.

The award adds to Life’s accolades. This comes after recently being rated best in England for visitor experience. A huge success which sees Life surpass destinations like the National Portrait Gallery and Bletchley Park.

Well done Life, we love to see it!
