Festive peanut butter and banana Christmas trees for furry friends to tuck into this Christmas…
Because everyone deserves sweet treats on Christmas!
Ingredients For This Dog-friendly Recipe
1 ripe banana
1⁄2 cup natural peanut butter (make sure it doesn’t contain xylitol, which is toxic to dogs)
1 tablespoon honey
1 cup whole wheat flour (or substitute with oat flour for a gluten-free option)
1⁄4 cup rolled oats
1⁄4 cup shredded carrots
1⁄5 cup unsweetened applesauce
Christmas tree biscuit cutters
Optional: a few small dog-friendly treats for decorating
Method: Peanut Butter And Banana Christmas Trees
Preheat your oven to 175°C.
In a large mixing bowl, mash the ripe banana until smooth. Add the peanut butter and honey to the mashed banana and stir until well combined.
Stir in the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, shredded carrots, and unsweetened applesauce. Mix until a dough forms. You may need to adjust the consistency by adding a little more flour if it’s too sticky or a touch more applesauce if it’s too dry.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface to a thickness of about 6 mm. Use Christmas tree biscuit cutters to cut out shapes from the dough.
Place the cut-out shapes on a lined baking tray. You can decorate by pressing smaller dog-friendly treats into the tops of the trees. This step is optional but adds a festive touch!
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes or until the treats are golden brown. Keep a close eye on them to avoid overbaking. Remove the treats from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack.
Once completely cooled, store these Christmas dog treats in an airtight container. They can be given to your furry friend as a special festive treat!
