Yarm School: Educating For Life

The recent 2023 A Level results reinforce Yarm’s position as one of the leading schools in the North. 42 students achieved three or more A*-A grades with more than 50% of all examinations taken achieving these top grades, compared with 22% in the North East region.

11 Yarm students achieved three or more A* grades and one student has been recognised as one of the highest performers in the country in her English Literature examinations. 13 students are moving on to study medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine at prestigious institutions including Birmingham, Belfast, Cambridge, Lancaster, Liverpool and London.

Other Yarm students are moving on to further study across a range of subjects, bucking the national trends with success in arts, humanities and languages, as well as seeing success in engineering, computer science, economics, psychology, politics, architecture and more.

There is a rising trend of Yarm students undertaking degree apprenticeship and apprenticeship placements, with eight gaining places on competitive schemes with industry leaders such as PwC, EY and BAE Systems.

Three fully-funded Sixth Form Scholarship students at Yarm also celebrated their A level results with four A*s, four As and one B between them. These talented young people have enjoyed a wide range of extra-curricular opportunities during their time at Yarm School, including on stage in the highly acclaimed musical, contributing to the award-winning student magazine and playing music and sport at a high level.

Yarm School Sixth Form

Yarm School offers up to four scholarships per cohort for ambitious pupils who would like to join the sixth form. The newly-refurbished sixth form has three study spaces with two indoor and one outdoor social areas complete with a dedicated sixth form bistro.

Each year, pupils join Yarm Sixth Form from local schools as well as the senior school. The start of term social events build the foundations of new friendships which flourish throughout the year.

Life at Yarm Sixth Form focuses on educating for life through a wide range of experiences and responsibilities. Debating, Yarm apprentice, peer support mentoring, timetabled activities, clubs, sport, drama and music are just some of the opportunities on offer that develop skills and build character, setting our pupils up for life.

Rowing is an increasingly popular and successful sport. For those joining the sixth form, the River Tees at Yarm is a great opportunity to take up the activity for the first time.

All of our pupils, whether they’re in nursery, pre-prep, preparatory school, senior school or sixth form, have access to the school’s award winning facilities, like the 750-seat Princess Alexandra auditorium and the music school.

Afterschool Activities

There are also over 100 weekly activities and clubs available to ensure the individual talents of each pupil are being discovered, developed and celebrated. Performing arts are a central part of the experience for many students.

The annual drama competition sees sixth form students leading and directing hundreds of enthusiastic younger pupils. The dance showcase, many music concerts and highly- acclaimed musical theatre productions are hugely popular with our young performers.
