The Luxe Lowdown: Lucy Adair, Danu Studios

Luxe Checks in with Danu Studios owner, Lucy Adair, to discuss her luxe things in life…

Getting to know you…

Name:
Lucy Adair

Where is home?
Northumberland

Three reasons you love where you live?
I love the North East as we are famous for being the friendliest, warmest people anyone could wish to meet. The vibrancy of Newcastle Upon Tyne for its unique nightlife, shopping, bars and restaurants. I am lucky enough to have the most beautiful scenery on my doorstep.

The Day Job…

What do you do for a living?
Owner of Danu Studios Beauty Salon based in the heart of Newcastle Upon Tyne.

A day in the life of you?
I am a morning person who loves to get out in the fresh air nice and early to walk my Springer Spaniel. This is the time when I’m able to prepare for the day with a clear head, and I find it’s always the time when my best ideas for the business come to me. Then it’s off to work to carry out a variety of treatments on my wonderful clients.

Any recent, ongoing or upcoming projects or achievements we should know about?
I feel like this year is the year of change where Danu Studios is going from strength to strength. I’ve recently been nominated for the women’s business awards and also the beauty salon of the year and beauty therapist of the year with the British Hair and Beauty Awards which I won back in 2020.

I have been approached to be a trainer for two leading brands within the beauty industry which I’m extremely excited about.

This will allow me to have a direct impact on ensuring the North East has a very high standard of future beauty therapists in the region, which I’m very passionate about.

What does downtime mean to you?
I work extremely hard and always try to get the message across that it’s very important to look at ourselves and our own wellbeing.

I try to follow my own advice and I’m trying my very best to do this myself. My guilty pleasure is to get onto the water on my paddle board early in the morning and watch the sunrise. I’d highly recommend it. It’s great for the mind, body and soul.

Lessons In Life…

What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I come from a family of entertainers and have been brought up around live music. My dream as a young girl was to be in the performing arts. Even now I’m always in awe of people who can sing and dance, and entertain audiences. Sadly, I’m a disappointment to my family as the only instrument I can play is the triangle.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. I feel like I spent a lot of my younger years worrying about things that didn’t really matter. Remember the 5×5 rule; if it’s not going to matter in five years, don’t spend more than five minutes being upset by it.

What is your greatest fear?
Losing the people around me that I love.

Which living person do you most admire and why?
Kate Middleton because she has style, class and grace. She is family-orientated, hard-working, and is growing more confident in her own skin. I feel she has really blossomed and grown, finding her confidence in a very understated way.

Living Luxe…

What is top of your bucket list?
To go on an African safari.

What is your most treasured possession?
My Springer Spaniel.

What does the weekend mean to you?
Work, because it’s a popular time for my clients. However, I try to give myself the odd Sunday off because I love a Sunday lunch!

A memorable holiday?
I was fortunate to spend last New Year in Thailand where I spent three weeks island hopping and seeing the most breathtaking scenery and soaking up the amazing culture. That trip will always hold a special place in my heart.

Best dress?
I have an absolute obsession with Sarah Jessica Parker in Sex In The City so anything that’s good enough for Carrie Bradshaw is good enough for me!

Who would be your top-three dinner guests?
Richard Branson, Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock.

The last place you ate?
Hibou Blanc, their steaks and cocktails are amazing!

The last book you read?
Think Like a Monk by Jay Shetty.

The last thing you listened to?
Luther Vandross Greatest Hits.

The last thing you watched?
The new Mission Impossible at the cinema.

Your three luxe things in life?
Crisp clean white bedding, Jo Malone Candles and Remy Martin Cognac.
