A staple in Newcastle’s foodie scene, The Vermont Hotel is a must-visit when it comes to a spot of luxe dining – especially for special occasions.
Ahead of Father’s Day on Sunday 19 June, we headed for the city centre hot spot to sample their new Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea offering – and it didn’t disappoint!
We’re greeted by the friendliest team of staff and guided to our table which boasts stunning views of the castle. As we sink into our comfy chairs, it’s hard not to peek over our shoulders at the next table who also appear to be tucking into the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea.
Our drinks arrive in the form of steaming hot cups of coffee. Silky, creamy and oh-so delicious, it’s the perfect mid-afternoon pick me up.
Despite being busy, our food arrives in a timely manner and it’s safe to say it’s a treat for the eyes as well as the tastebuds.
An impressive rustic platter is placed down in front of us, immaculately presented and packed full of tasty goodness. We each get a succulent Vermont burger slider, scotch egg, pork pie and fries as well as a selection of sweet treats and delicious pastries.
The Vermont burger slider is as good as it looks! Layered up with Emmental cheese, BBQ sauce and the perfect amount of accompanying crunchy salad. Each mouthful is as delicious as the next, we never want it to end.
The perfectly salted, crispy fries are the perfect companion to match the Vermont burger which we tuck into before moving on to the rest of the platter.
A slight breather and we’re already biting into the juicy pork pie. Fresh, tasty and parcelled in a pastry that’s to die for. As is the scotch egg, it’s hands down probably one of the best we’ve had.
Another round of drinks arrive and this time it’s a pint of Moretti. The Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea is served with a selection of tea and coffee or you can choose to upgrade to a pint of Wylam Ale (£23.95), Moretti (£24.45) or a Glenfiddich (£25.45).
We finish things off with a selection of mouthwatering sweet bites. It goes without saying each and every one of the cakes and pastries we have the pleasure of trying is delicious and is just the perfect amount to round off our afternoon feast.
With Father’s Day around the corner, treat dad to something a little different this year. As well as The Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea, The Vermont Hotel also serves up a selection of other variations including; Cream Tea, Traditional Afternoon Tea, Champagne Afternoon Tea and Children’s Afternoon Tea.
The Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea starts at £19.95 and is served daily between 1pm and 4pm. To book, call 0191 233 1010 or for more information, visit vermont-hotel.com.
