What Are The Steps Of A Million Dollar Facial

Always been intrigued by a Million Dollar Facial, but never quite known what it entails? Nicole Wood heads to Danu Studios to try it out for herself. Here's what she found out...
Million Dollar Facial

If you’re reading this, you’ve probably heard of The Million Dollar Facial and are considering trying it for yourself – am I right?

Like myself, you’ve probably searched the internet high and low, seeking out what this sought-after treatment entails, read through numerous reviews and screenshotted endless amounts of impressive before-and-after photos.

After reading such positive reviews promising as-good-as-new skin in just a few transformative steps, I just had to try it for myself and so headed to see Lucy and Laura from the brand new Danu Studio in Hoults Yard for my very own Million Dollar experience.

Here’s what I found out and what you can expect from The Million Dollar Facial…

Cleanse

First up, the most relaxing cleanse your face will ever experience followed by a spritz of toner to close the pores.

I arrived at Danu Studios makeup free, ready and raring to go. After filling in a brief consultation form and chatting to the lovely Lucy and Laura, I was invited to whip off my shoes and dive into the heated bed, headband on and tucked into the duvet.

Yes, it was as dreamy as it sounds.

Already relaxed and ready to fall asleep, Laura started to thoroughly clean my face using a massage-like technique leaving my skin squeaky clean and super relaxed.

Dermaplaning

Next up, a luscious balm is applied to my entire face, nourishing the skin and acting as a protective layer, before the next step of the treatment is carried out.

The Medi+ Nourishing Balm used is an amazing product for many reasons. One being as the base for dermaplaning throughout The Million Dollar Facial treatment, another being makeup remover and moisturiser, as well as soothing cuts, burns stings and bites.

I have always been desperate to try dermaplaning, but always been a little apprehensive. When I found out this was part of the treatment, I was delighted.

For those who aren’t familiar with Dermaplaning, it involves your therapist using a surgical blade to shave your face, with the aim of removing all of the vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz, along with all of the grime and dirt lodged in the epidermis (top layer of the skin).

Don’t worry it’s not as terrifying as it sounds and the rumours of your hair coming back thicker and darker is purely a myth.

During the process, the epidermis is gently exfoliated away, taking with it a build-up of dead skin, leftover makeup and unwanted hair, leaving behind a silky smooth canvas.

The best part? It makes your skin 80% more absorbent so you’re going to get a better result from skincare at home and from the rest of the treatment.

Microneedling

My fresh, clean and fuzz-free face was then treated to a deep lymphatic drainage massage to flush out toxins and when I say this party was unbelievably dreamy, I sincerely mean it. Next comes a hydration serum, a soothing oil like product swept across your face before microneedling.

This was the part of the treatment I was most nervous about, but once Laura started the microneedling process on my forehead, I instantly relaxed and knew there was nothing to worry about.

So what actually is it? Microneedling is a really small roller with hundreds of teeny-tiny, tiny little needles that pin-prick the skin when rolled across the face.

Why? This tricks the skin into thinking it’s damaged, meaning your skin will automatically go ‘oh, I need to repair myself here’ and to do so, it starts kicking out extra collagen and elastin and that’s what we need in the skin to help plump out fine lines and wrinkles.

Kicking the body’s natural healing process into gear not only speeds up the collagen production and cell turnover, but it’s also really good for breaking down pigmentation, acne scarring and tons of other impressive benefits.

Laura passes the roller over my entire face twice, causing some redness on my cheeks and forehead. While it’s not the most relaxing part of the treatment, it’s definitely not unbearable.

For me, the only parts which caught my attention were my temples and upper lip, but you soon get used to the feeling and it’s short lived.

Hyaluronic Acid Mask

Next, a cool and wonderfully soothing mask floods the skin with Hyaluronic Acid.

Brushed on over the tiny little prin-pricks which have been created, the Hyaluronic Acid mask absorbs deeper into the skin. We actually stop producing Hyaluronic Acid at the age of 21, so this part of the treatment is crucial for us over that age bracket.

Allowing the mask to fully soak into the skin and work its magic, Laura leaves the room for 15 minutes, but before doing so, a comfortably heavy mask is then placed over the eyes, putting you in complete darkness for ultimate relaxation.

Cocooned in the warmth of the bed with nothing to distract you other than the relaxing sound of the meditation music playing in the background, this part of the treatment is the perfect opportunity to switch off, relax and forget about the worries of day-to-day life.

Protection

After another dreamy massage to encourage any leftover product to soak in, I’m treated to a few pats of some much-needed SPF 50.

SPF 50 is essential after a treatment like this, the first layer of skin has been removed, meaning we’re extra sensitive to the sun.

The magical formula used is the everyday moisturiser from Million Dollar, it’s nice and light with a tiny bit of tint to it – great for under makeup.

Aftercare

After the treatment is complete I chat once again with the lovely Lucy and Laura who provide me with all of the essential aftercare and what I can expect from my skin over the coming weeks.

After working on and looking so closely at my skin, I was also recommended to try a Microdermabrasion treatment to help with the clogged pores on my nose – a great piece of advice I gladly accepted and booked in straight away.

The results

The glow! Oh my goodness, the instant glow as soon as you sit up from the bed is insane.

A couple of weeks later, I noticed a couple of dry patches on my cheeks which was expected thanks to the forwarning from Lucy and Laura. This was short-lived and what followed in week three was a silky smooth, glowing canvas which I’m still holding to this day.

The Million Dollar Facial is recommended every 6-8 weeks. It is not recommended any sooner as the results from the last treatment remain on-going.
