Paint The Town In Sound
The virtual walk-through tour of Sunderland Culture’s exhibition, Paint the Town in Sound, is waiting for you to experience and explore. This virtual experience enables you to explore the physical exhibition as if you were there, at any time, remotely on a digital device.
Paint the Town in Sound is a beautiful, colourful exhibition that explores the vibrant and often playful relationship between art and music and the direct links forged between musicians and artists taking Sunderland-based band Field Music’s own collaborations as a starting point to explore wider trends.
Artworks included in the exhibition are drawn from the Arts Council Collection and feature artists like Helen Cammock, Jeremy Deller, Anthea Hamilton, Mark Leckey and Susan Philipsz.
Plus, check out a specially curated playlist and podcasts by Field Music themselves to coincide with the exhibition!

Watch the award-winning film Asunder from the comfort of your home until 30 April and get 25% off with Sunderland Culture’s special discount code.
Asunder 1916 explores the legacy of World War One by weaving together the stories of men, women and children from Sunderland – from the men who fought in the trenches, to the women who stayed behind to work in the region’s shipyards and munitions factories.
Using unseen archive and contemporary footage of Sunderland and the North East, this unique film uncovers how the lives of ordinary people were irrevocably affected by the conflict.
Featuring an original soundtrack, the film brings together some of the region’s most exciting contemporary and classical musicians – Sunderland’s Mercury-nominated Field Music, Newcastle’s Warm Digits, the Royal Northern Sinfonia and The Cornshed Sisters.
