My Kind of Christmas: Kenny Atkinson

MY SPECIAL CHRISTMAS RECIPES…

My wife’s raspberry and sherry trifle is the one special recipe we do at home every year. It’s been our tradition for 20 years.

TREASURED FESTIVE MEMORIES…

I think my special memory of Christmas was going to my Grandma and Grandad’s when we were young. My Grandad would pick all his veg from his allotment and my Gran would make a massive feast. All of the family would come over, sit around a makeshift table with chairs all different shapes and sizes and we used to just tuck in.

KEY CHRISTMAS INGREDIENTS…

It has to be a beautiful stuffing. Also, pigs in blankets and bread sauce just scream Christmas. But for me it’s got to be turkey. It’s something I grew up with as a kid, it’s affordable, it’s great if you have any leftovers, and it’s just a great festive tradition.

CHRISTMAS WITH THE ATKINSONS…

Christmas at the Atkinsons is a big celebration! On Christmas Day itself we’re up really early with the kids to open presents. We always try and push the boat out and make their Christmas as magical and as memorable as possible. Christmas tunes are on in the morning and we’re all ready in our Christmas onesies – it’s a bit of a tradition.

As soon as the kids have opened their presents, me and the wife will open a beautiful bottle of champagne, which we’ll enjoy before our meal.

Once the kids are down in bed, we crack open a bottle of port or bottle of Baileys, get a nice little buffet of cheese and cured meats, and we just plonk down in front of the TV and watch the classics.

HOUSE OF TIDES CHRISTMAS SPECIAL…

Our beautiful spiced chocolate cremeux, sprayed with chocolate and chestnut glaze, topped with coconut tuile and garnished with chestnut and praline mousse, is a must try this Christmas! Complete with little candied chestnuts and served with a spiced ice cream, just delicious.
