Peace & Loaf Jesmond is back with a bang – bringing vibrant summer flavours to the table with their exciting new tasting menu.
For many, the lockdown period has given us all chance to rest, reflect and try our hands at something new. Whether you’ve taken on the roll as head chef at home, you’ve upped your allotment game, or you’ve delved into some of the region’s fantastic new takeout offering, we’re all ready to embrace a bit of normality – or indeed the ‘new normal’.
As the country awakes from months of uncertainty, there may still be some uncertainty around getting out and about and enjoying some of our favourite restaurants, bars, shops and cultural venues.
Our friends at Peace & Loaf are here to ensure we can enjoy the usual exquisite service in a safe and sociable environment – where customers and staff come first.
There is no compromise, however, on the quality of the food and service – and we were delighted to head out for the restaurant’s soft launch ahead of the opening on Wednesday 8 July.
All social distancing measures were in place as we were seated for the colourful new summer menu – celebrating local produce, familiar flavours and everything this refined neighbourhood restaurant is about.
With Dave Coulson at the helm, every menu is crafted with creativity and the very best, in-season produce in mind. A Peace & Loaf experience will take you on a delicious journey celebrating innovative British cuisine with Dave’s signature touch.
We kicked things off with the Black Pudding Macaron, which was probably the best start to a meal we’ve had. Perfect punchy flavours packed into pretty parcels.
Other highlights as part of the ten course feast included the Raw Steak Pie – a beautifully simple dish and a tiny taste of one of our hearty British favourites.
The Rib of Beef is also worth mentioning. The meat was cooked to perfection, served alongside beetroot, bone marrow and tarragon. Just the ticket to fill our tummies post-lockdown. Incredibly well thought out food for the soul.
On to the sweet stuff. The Itakuja, Pistachio & Cherry Pretzel was a breath of fresh air, combining zippy, sweet and earthy flavours.
As you can see, every dish was presented wonderfully – reminding us why it’s oh-so special to eat out. For the Peace & Loaf team, plating up is like working on a piece of art. It’s a talking point, an Instagrammer’s dream – and a real shame to tuck in and enjoy the masterpiece. But boy, we’re so glad we did.
