MY WFH REGIME: KAY MURRAY

During these uncertain times, Luxe has been checking in at several 'home offices' across the region. This week, we're heading stateside for a catch up with ESPN presenter and proud Teessider, Kay Murray.
MY WFH REGIME: KAY MURRAY

I GET UP ON A MORNING FOR…

My four month old baby, Luca. I don’t really have much of a choice! He’s sleeping through the night already and I know we’re lucky for that, but once he wakes up in the morning, he’s wide eyed and alert and not in any mood for a lie in.

Work is another reason. I recently signed with a new broadcaster, ESPN, but would never have imagined my first shifts sat on a kitchen stool in my living room, talking into my mobile phone.

BREAKFAST IS…

Always one of two things; a smoothie loaded with berries, a banana, flaxseed, nuts, almond milk and sometimes cacao powder, or porridge with all the trimmings. I’m not a big morning coffee drinker but I may have one now and again. I love a cup of tea though!

MY DESK SET-UP INCLUDES…

A stand for my iPhone, a ring light, my iPad, a printer, sellotape (to stick my notes on the wall or a window), my makeup bag and a huge glass of water.

LUNCHTIME BRINGS…

Could be bean tortillas, could be avocado on toast with chopped tomatoes and salad, or it’s often something with chickpeas. My husband, Matteo and I have been plant-based for two years and never felt better. If he’s on lunchtime duty, it’s pasta and one of his famous sauces. He’s Italian and prides himself on his pasta dishes!

TO BREAK AWAY FROM MY HOME OFFICE…

I go for long walks with my boys, check out my next outfit on the subscription fashion service I have, bake some healthy(ish) treats or make my brain hurt with a cryptic crossword.

Usually though, I’m playing with Luca or running around after him, making sure he has everything he needs. One of the pros of lockdown has been the chance to spend so much time with my new baby.

WHEN 5 O’CLOCK HITS…

I start to get the baby ready for bed, get myself in the shower and plan what’s for dinner.

If I’m on air the next day (from my home studio), I’ll often do my hair and paint my nails the night before to make my mornings easier.

My husband and I always eat at the dining table and somehow still have so much to talk about, even though we’re together all day, every day!

I’M WATCHING…

The Handmaid’s Tale. Matteo and I generally watch everything together, once we’ve finally agreed on something! We picked this show back up recently. We also just finished the ESPN documentary on Michael Jordan, The Last Dance. We looked forward to Sundays because of it.

I’M READING…

My book has been half-finished since February. It’s The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I love to read but have not had any time since the little guy arrived. I’ve picked up a few baby books though, but he’s not that interested just yet.

I’M LISTENING TO…

Usually sports podcasts while I cook or clean, but I’ve also been loving a 70s Soul Essentials playlist on Apple Music lately. Or anything by the Weekend, especially his early stuff.

3 TOP TIPS FOR STAYING AT HOME…

1. Lovely loungewear – I love Alo Yoga’s stuff and recently treated myself to two new tracksuits from there.

2. Tidy house, tidy mind – Keeping on top of it since the baby’s arrival hasn’t been easy but we always feel better when everything is clean and tidy.

3. Trying your best to enjoy the downtime – I know it’s been forced upon us but I think we’ll miss it when it’s gone. Make the most of it!

QUOTE OF THE DAY…

“Doing what you like is freedom. Liking what you do is happiness.”
