If, like us, you’ve been missing popping to your local cafe for a coffee fix, we’ve put together a short list of North East independent coffee shops supplying the good stuff online.
Not only can you buy barista-style coffee, you can also get your hands on some lovely merchandise, such as tote bags, mugs and gift cards – along with a range of coffee accessories if you need to top up.
Pilgrims Coffee House and Roastery
This family-run gem in a unique location on Holy Island, not only sells first-rate coffee, they also roast it themselves. Established in 2006 with the aim of being a low-impact café, they find all of their food and produce locally. The fresher the better, right?
Laneways Coffee Co
Located in the heart of Newcastle, Laneways is a little thing of beauty. Since opening its doors to the public in 2016, their Australian-style menu quickly ranked them Newcastle’s number one on Bean Hunter. They offer a variety of high-quality beans from award-winning All Press and Origin Coffee. Our personal favourite is their Origin San Fermin; a washed Colombian with notes of orange sherbet, caramel and berries – great for both espresso and filter. Browse the website and enjoy Laneway at home during lockdown.
Pink Lane Coffee
Pink Lane Coffee is one of the original speciality coffee shops in the North East. They lightly roast all of their coffee in their Sandyford roastery and supply to a handful of coffee shops across the UK. Working closely with growers around the world, they chose their coffee according to the seasons, meaning there’s always something new to try. Head online for coffee subscriptions and gift vouchers for those you love.
Rounton Coffee Roasters at Bedford Street Coffee
Founded in 2014 and based in Northallerton, Rounton Coffee Roasters have two shops in Teesside: Bedford Street Coffee and The Corner. They also have an oh-so sweet third site, The Joiners Shop, in the village of Ingleby Cross, between Stokesley and Osmotherley. They pride themselves on ethical and sustainable trading, offering complete traceability from plant to cup. Check out the Reunion Coffee Roasters website, where you’ll find everything from freshly roasted coffees, to brew equipment and terrific teas to try.
Established in 2006, Coffee Culture is an independent coffee shop in York city centre. Known for the friendly staff and delicious York Emporium Coffee + guest single origins, Coffee Culture is a must when in York. But for now, locals can head over to their Facebook page for more details on how to get Coffee Culture home deliveries. Coffee and brownies – the perfect working-from-home desk setup, if you ask us!
Soon we’ll return to the diverse and bustling North East coffee culture. For now, a silky latte in my pyjamas sounds wonderful.
