MY WFH REGIME: ELYSIA FRYER

During these uncertain times, Luxe has been checking in at several 'home offices' across the region. This week, we catch up with our very own Editor, Elysia Fryer.

I GET UP ON A MORNING FOR…

A day at the home office… but first, ‘yoga & a brew’ gets my day underway – quite literally! I slip into my loungewear, pop the kettle on and enjoy an early morning virtual flow session with the lovely Rebecca from Yoga & A Brew.

Check out our recent catch up with Yoga & A Brew founder Rebecca here.

BREAKFAST IS…

My cuppa is best served with crumpets. I really should be sticking to porridge, but I can’t get enough of butter and marmite crumpets at the moment. Marmite was once an absolutely no no for me, but hey – things can change when the world turns upside down. A newfound foodie love, let’s look at the positives!

MY DESK SET-UP INCLUDES…

Flowers, a full cup of Yorkshire Tea and a hefty pile of Luxe magazines. Throw in some lovely hand cream, my uber-comfy UGG slippers and some photographs of my loved ones – and there’s no place I’d rather be!

LUNCHTIME BRINGS…

Usually left-overs from the night before – today it was pasta, yesterday it was chicken and leek pie, tomorrow, who knows…

TO BREAK AWAY FROM MY HOME OFFICE…

I enjoy a bit of away-from-the-screen time in the garden with a book, a short stroll, or rolling my mat out for a lunchtime yoga class. Jigsaws were once a ‘between Christmas and New Year’ pastime, but have become a new favourite hobby for me, also.

WHEN 5 O’CLOCK HITS…

5 o’clock is wine o’clock, right? This is my time to live it up luxe-style with a glass of the good stuff.

I’M WATCHING…

I’m currently working my way through the last episodes of Power on Netflix, then I’ve got a lot of catching up to do with Liar, Killing Eve and Save Me. Gosh, that all sounds very dark. All of that, plus my daily dose of Friends and Gavin and Stacey, to keep us smiling. Disney+ is next on my to-do list…

I’M READING…

I’d advise everyone to stop what they’re doing and read The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. A truly heartwarming story and a message we all need during these tough times. It settles the mind, feeds the soul and reminds us that we’re never alone. I’ve been trying to read a passage or two before I drift off at night – it really is a calming influence.

Check out our Luxe round-up of ‘happy reads’ here.

I’M LISTENING TO…

Podcasts podcasts podcasts. Usually, I listen to podcasts for company on my morning commute, however – whilst at home – I’m trying to keep up with my favourite shows. Chris and Rosie Ramsey’s Sh**ged. Married. Annoyed. is a firm favourite – among many others such as Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place and comedy crime favourite, My Favorite Murder. Check out our Luxe round-up of ‘top 10 podcasts’ here.

Podcasts aside, I’ve been listening to a ‘Yoga & Meditation’ playlist on Spotify to keep my mind at ease during practice and my creative juices flowing in the home office. My house currently sounds like a health spa, and I’m loving it! When the weekend rolls back around, we’ll be swapping serene sounds for soul and Motown classics! The Lighthouse Family have the ability to brighten up any day for me – who doesn’t love a bit of sunshine music?

3 TOP TIPS FOR STAYING AT HOME…

1. Remember, you are not alone in this. Check in with your friends, family and colleagues on a regular basis. Our Luxe ladies have been hosting regular ‘Quarantine & Coffee’ and ‘Quarantine & Cocktails’ catch-ups using Google Hangouts. It has been so refreshing to catch up with clients and colleagues and keep conversations going.

2. Try to give yourself a bit of routine – whether it’s scheduling in a weekly or daily fitness class, walking the dog, cooking tea at a certain time, or taking your lunch break. Some kind of structure in your day is important – and for me, it helps me to be as productive as possible.

3. Write it down! I swear by this rule of life. Write something down, and you’ll feel better instantly. Whether it’s setting goals for the week ahead, writing a to-do list for the day, or just jotting down some thoughts in a journal, I can assure you it will make you feel more productive, it will calm your nerves and it will help you express your thoughts and feelings.

QUOTE OF THE DAY…

“When the big things feel out of control, focus on what you love right under your nose.” – Charlie Mackery, The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse.
