Bali is a honeymoon box-ticker for couples looking for the perfect mix of paradise, pristine beaches, wellness and culture.
Whether it’s a lazy day on the beach, a hike through the rice paddies, or a rejuvenating yoga experience in the mountains, ‘the island of a thousand temples’ is a far-away adventure with something for everyone.
And the people are just as colourful as the landscape. Of course, the place is filling up with boho-types, yogis and those working in tourism, but traditionally, Bali’s main industries revolve around farming and the creative arts.
During our trip, our driver is keen to give us both a cultural and creative tour of his beloved Indonesian island. As soon as you go off the beaten track into quaint villages you’ll find locals chipping away at wooden sculptures, creating intricate silver jewellery and working on beautiful batik designs.
Moments into our trip, we’re well-versed on the island’s colourful culture – something passionate locals are more than happy to share with tourists.
A short yet incredibly insightful twenty minute taxi brings us to our base – Conrad Bali. Sitting on a stunning stretch of beach in Nusa Dua, it’s a haven of blue lagoons, luxe suites and creative culinary experiences.
Conrad Bali is a secluded sanctuary set within lush tropical gardens. Throughout the resort, a number of buildings link up to create a cosmopolitan development by the coast.
SUITE LIFE >>
Fully briefed on what Bali has to offer, we’re checked into our Conrad Ocean Suite, ready to explore the resort.
Every room, suite and villa comes complete with all the latest mod-cons, walk-in-wardrobes, marble bathrooms and balconies or terraces with spectacular vistas of the pool and gardens, blending effortlessly into the crystal clear waters of Benoa Bay.
Our suite is effortlessly stylish, designed with breezy, beachy interiors in mind. Complete with its very own kitchen and lounge, as well as an infinity pool sitting atop the main balcony, we’re in the perfect spot to watch the world go buy in our buzzy Conrad base.
COLOURFUL CUISINE >>
The country is home to a vibrant new wave of restaurants and culturally-diverse dining experience, and Conrad Bali is no exception – offering a bounty of restaurants and colourful cuisine.
And with culinary creator, Benoit Chargy at the helm, we wouldn’t expect anything less. We met Benoit back in 2016 during a trip to the Waldorf Astoria Beijing – where he lifted the lid on his Taste of Waldorf winning dish, the Jing Roll.
There’s no doubt about it, we’re big fans of his work – and on arrival, we’re pleased to see him as kitchen captain at the Conrad.
So, what’s on the menu? RIN is the resort’s answer to exotic Japanese dining with an international twist. Go here for steaming bowls of ramen noodles, the finest sushi dishes and traditional teppanyaki.
Suku – meaning ‘Island of the Gods’ – offers authentic, Balinese street food and Southeast Asian specialities, feeding us ‘buffet-style’ from breakfast through to lunch and dinner.
For beachfront dining, Eight Degrees South is a must-visit, serving good-for-the-soul seafood, prime cuts of meat and the freshest salads in an idyllic, al-fresco location.
During our visit, we’re treated to a romantic honeymoon dinner in beautiful ‘beach bale’ by Eight Degrees South. Think champagne, lobster, caviar, mouthwatering meats and sweet treats.
Those looking for laid-back, poolside dining, should visit the Azure. Take a seat at the bamboo-style bar or get cocktails delivered to your sun lounger. This is the place to be for herbal teas, coconut cocktails, smoothies, light lunches, exotic salads and punchy pizzas.
As day turns to night, we find happy hour over at East, serving signature sips as the sun sinks into the horizon.
OUT & ABOUT >>
With Conrad Bali as your base, there’s so much to see and do. Our first day-trip takes us to Ubud – Bali’s spiritual home. A cultural haven surrounded by mysterious mountains and calming waters. Ubud is packed full of colourful creatures, mischievous monkeys and artsy people going about their daily life.
It’s made up of a cluster of villages, surrounded by rice paddies, waterfalls and the lushest green landscape. A natural playground with so much on offer for honeymooners – whether it’s a wander through the rainforest, a tour of the coffee plantations, a local cookery class or a yoga retreat.
Other Bali hotspots include Seminyak – a hipster hangout, packed with indulgent interior stores, cool culinary destinations, swanky villas and boutique hotels.
Further along the coast you’ll find Canggu, where Bali’s blissful beaches really come into play. Take to the waves or hit up the buzzy beach clubs.
Another favourite on our Bali break is Uluwatu – a surfer’s paradise sitting on the rugged and rocky coastline on the south-western tip of the Bukit Peninsula. Here you’ll find surf cafes, clifftop condos and some of the best beaches in Bali.
What’s a romantic getaway without a perfect sunset? Head to Jimbaran Beach where you’ll find the island’s best sundowner views as you feast in a fish shack while fire dancers and local musicians set the soundtrack.
The friendly faces at Conrad Bali are on hand at all times to arrange all of the above experiences; but for honeymooners who prefer to stay put, there are plenty of on-site activities to explore, too.
Guests can enjoy cultural Balinese dinners, be thrilled by watersports and simply unwind in the tranquility of the resort’s lush lagoons, pools and gardens.
There’s so much more to the beauty that meets the eye on this exotic Indonesian isle. And with Conrad Bali as your base, honeymooners can expect a romantic retreat with adventure aplenty.
