3 DIY BEAUTY TREATMENTS TO TRY

We’ve always championed at-home pampering. But now, more than ever, we believe a little TLC can make a big difference to our wellbeing…

Our much-loved drugstores and spas may be closed for now – but that doesn’t mean the pampering can’t continue. Check out our top three DIY treatments you can enjoy in the comfort of your own home…

Honey & avocado face mask…

All this time indoors can cause havoc on our skin. Central heating can dry the skin out and many people’s everyday cleansing routine can fall by the wayside now that our day-to-day life has changed. If your complexion’s feeling dry or congested, why not give his moisturising and healing face mask a go? Honey is naturally anti-bacterial and super soothing, while avocado is packed with healthy fats and vitamin E to help hydrate your complexion and give it some glow.

INGREDIENTS

2 tablespoons of runny honey

1 whole avocado, mashed

A squeeze of lemon juice (or a splash of apple cider vinegar)

METHOD

In a bowl, mix all ingredients until you have a smooth paste. Apply to clean skin, avoiding the eye area, and leave for 10-15 minutes. Honey is, of course, sticky, so remember to rinse off throughly, so that no residue is left on the skin.

Coconut & fig hair treatment…

Show your hair some love with this super-moisturising, oh-so-fruity and incredibly easy hair treatment. Renowned for its nourishing and conditioning properties, coconut oil helps lock in moisture from root to tip, while figs are rich in vitamins C and E. Together, they’re a force to be reckoned with, helping to soothe and stimulate the scalp (perfect for those concerned with hair loss and/or dandruff) and add long-lasting shine and hydration.

INGREDIENTS

5 tablespoons of coconut oil, melted

2 figs, mashed and seeds removed

METHOD

In a bowl, whisk both ingredients until you have a smooth consistency. Add to dry hair, making sure to massage the liquid into the scalp, before reaching the mid-lengths and ends. Those with split ends should pay extra attention to their ends. Once evenly distributed, cover with a protective shower cap and leave for 25-30 minutes or overnight. Remember to rinse thoroughly.

Banana & lime body scrub…

Not only will this tropical body scrub leave you with soft, bright and supple skin, just like a baby’s, it’ll fill your bathroom with the scent of holidays. Summer getaways may be out of reach for now, but a scoop or two of this stuff will have you feeling like you’ve just stepped off the plane.

INGREDIENTS

2 ripe bananas

3 tablespoons of white or golden caster sugar

The juice of 2 large limes

METHOD

In a bowl, mix all ingredients until throughly combined. Decant into a plastic container or tub, so that the scrub can be used safely in the bath or shower. Apply to wet skin in brisk, circular motions (this will help boost circulation), starting at the feet and working your way up the chest and arms. Rinse throughly. The sugar will dissolve naturally in the water and won’t clog your drains!
