LUXE LOCKS: RIDE THE WAVE

With the party season upon us, we thought it would be a good idea to share something super glam with you...

Christmas is the perfect time to step it up a notch and get yourself looking totally gorgeous for the festive season.

If in doubt, wave it out! You literally can’t go wrong with gorgeous curls or a fab waved-out texture to transform your locks into something pretty special.

Whether you have a mid-length bob or longer locks with layers, you can definitely make this look work for you. A root tonging technique rather than traditional tonging from the ends up, will give you a much more even curl from root to tip with long-lasting results.

Choose your tong or wand size based on what kind of result you want, but our advice would always be to opt for a smaller tong and take bigger sections to ensure your look lasts.

Both of these beauties have been blow-dried with volume before root tonging on a smallish tong, using a spritz of medium hold hairspray on each section as you go.

For more curl definition, simply shake the curls through with your fingers; or for a smoother waved-out look, use a soft brush from root to tip before shaking from underneath.

Hair accessories and ornamentation can also help take your look to the next level. We’ve used a deep velvet hair band with a brooch detail at the front, which looks fantastic!

This gorgeous image comes courtesy of our very own Jonathan Turner from Hooker & Young Jesmond, who is a finalist at this year’s British Hairdressing Awards for North Eastern Hairdresser of the Year.

And the gongs don’t stop there… joining Jonathan as a finalist at this year’s event in London is Sophie Gibson from our Gosforth salon, who is a finalist in British Newcomer of the Year.

Jonathan and Sophie are also finalists for British Colourist of the Year, and myself and Gary are nominees for the prestigious British Hairdresser of the Year!

With four amazing nominations in the bag, it promises to be a great night for team H&Y, which will be made all the better if we can bring some silverware back to the North East.
