WHEN WE WERE GETTING MARRIED, WE BOTH WANTED SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT FROM THE AVERAGE WEDDING CAR…
The vehicles have always been in Tom’s family. He and his dad have had a love for Land Rover forever. So we thought we might as well try and use the family cars in our own wedding in 2017. We used our own car, as well as Tom’s dad’s vintage Series 1, which he had restored for us – it was a lovely touch.
And then we found ourselves searching hard to find something similar. Unintentionally, we saw a gap in the market – and one that we were incredibly excited about!
At the time, there was just one other company in Yorkshire who offered new Land Rover hire – but not the vintage vehicles – and they’re the ones that are really special to us and our customers.
It was a huge passion of Tom’s, so it was really fun setting it all up, and now it’s really taking off. We’re thrilled!
ONCE WE GOT YORKSHIRE VEHICLE HIRE UP AND RUNNING, OUR FIRST EVENT WAS…
A local wedding in the village (Great Ayton). So that was a bit nerve-wracking, but it went ahead and they were really chuffed with it. It’s so nice to be able to work within our local community, as well as venturing out into Yorkshire and beyond. We get to see a lot of the country in this job, and we’re learning every day.
THE WAY IN WHICH THE HIRE WORKS IS…
The vehicles are chauffeur driven for weddings, but some people do like the self-drive option – which is something we’ve just started offering. It’s particularly special for a wedding. It means the bride’s dad can drive his daughter to the wedding, the groom can cruise with his groomsmen or couples might want the car for after the wedding so they can drive off together – in LR style.
The self-drive hire is a different avenue that we’re exploring – it’s perfect for holiday homes and things like that. The idea is that people can enjoy our vehicles for the weekend at their own leisure. It’s great for people who want to explore Yorkshire and get a real feel for the countryside. What’s better than a weekend in the Dales in a Defender?
It’s quite an experience to head off into the countryside and hire an off-road Defender. It’s a great way to explore our glorious county, that’s for sure.
Alongside our trusty Land Rovers and Defenders, we’ve got a vintage Bedford K Type bus, which is great for wedding parties.
Bridal parties or groomsmen can hop on board and ride in style. Bespoke hampers and drinks to be enjoyed on the journey back to the reception is a lovely touch. Our wedding parties love that.
LAND ROVER HAS BECOME A PART OF OUR FAMILY, AND WE’RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR ADDITIONS TO OUR FLEET…
Tom and his dad have a bit of a thing for them, so they’re just always hunting new vehicles down. A couple of them have been bought finished – like the Twisted Defenders, but some of them we have done up ourselves. That’s where Tom’s creative side comes in!
We had a couple of vehicles already and then we’ve just been collecting really cool cars along the way. We’ve just got one that we’re adding beer taps to the side of. We’re calling it OneTen On Tap.
We’re going to brand it up and get some local craft ales fitted to it. The idea is that we can attend events or host groups. We can’t wait to take our first group of groomsmen in the coming months!
WE LOVE LAND ROVER, BUT YORKSHIRE IS ALSO A HUGE PART OF OUR BUSINESS…
We’re trying to focus on local, country venues when it comes to weddings and events – supporting local businesses as much as we can. It’s great to meet other suppliers who can help each other out. That’s what Yorkshire is all about.
Our selling point – if you like – is to be able to get you there whatever the weather. We’ve got quite a lot of winter bookings actually, which is great. Winter allows passengers to really enjoy the full Defender experience.
