This Neopolitan pizzeria and enoteca on Duke Street is the go-to spot for doughy goodness. Stable Hearth is honest, wholesome and serves up the finest fusion of flavours. A great place to unwind with friends over wine and carbs.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: What isn’t on the menu? Fabulous flavours of all kinds – and to die for toppings. Everything works here. And if you’re not feeling sweet enough after your pizza feast, make sure you try their delicious desserts.

Elder & Wolf, Whitley Bay

WHY WE LOVE IT: If you haven’t tried the pizza at this little gem by the coast then we urge you to stop by on your next seaside jaunt. It’s a cool hang-out indeed, with a vibe that instantly lifts your spirits – not to mention the foodie goodies on offer. Go here for wood-fired pizzas, handmade flatbreads and toppings aplenty. What we love most is everything is served straight from the flames, ensuring full tummies and maximum flavour.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: You’ll be spoilt for choice if you love doughy deliciousness, but there’s plenty more on the menu if you’re pal isn’t into pizza. The taco platters and posh kebabs are just as inviting – this calls for more than one trip!

ORDER THIS: Since we’re by the sea, we’re going all out seafood! Try the prawn, samphire and chorizo pizza – packed with punchy flavours on a perfect base – crispy on the outside, but wonderfully soft and fluffy as you make your way to the middle.


Scrann, Norton

WHY WE LOVE IT: Scrann is your soul mate when it comes to sourdough slices! A place for both pizza pickers and cocktail sippers, there’s a real buzz about the place. Its edgy decor, delicious doughs and creative concoctions makes for the perfect pizza party place.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: The concept is simple. Go here for wood oven pizzas, Italian, German and French cured meats and cheese and delicious daily-changing specials.

ORDER THIS: Without a doubt, do the slow cooked beef pizza – a perfectly crisp, yet substantial base topped with tomato sauce, melt-in-the-mouth slow cooked beef, caramelised onions and gorgonzola. The salty blue cheese zips through the succulent slices of beef – with a sweet kick from the caramelised onion. Just perfect.


Cal’s Own, Jesmond

WHY WE LOVE IT: Call to Cal’s Own for bubbling, wood-fired slices, Neapolitan-style. This Jesmond gem uses a hand-built Stefano Ferrara, reaching temperatures in excess of 500°C. This marvellous piece of machinery cooks your pizzas in just 60 seconds – so expect speedy service and scrumptious, wood-fired flavours!

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: All the doughs you’ve dreamed of, and more! Pick your base and sauce and vamp it up with your favourite toppings from chicken and chillies to sausage and sottocenere. Extras and sides include truffle chips, rocket salad and fresh basil.

ORDER THIS: It’s all in the name. We’re loving the calzone Napolitana – a folded pizza packing in mozzarella, ricotta, mushroom, garlic, fresh basil, sea salt and S.Marzano tomato sauce.


Il Mulino, Stokesley

WHY WE LOVE IT: This is the place to go for tip-top toppings – and lots of them. Interesting flavours and combos come spread over thin, crispy bases.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: Perfect pizzas with toppings of all kinds, nibbles, antipasti boards, pasta, risotto and salads. Other main dishes include breaded chicken breast, calves liver, cod lion and belly pork. There’s something for everyone – but the punchy pizzas are definitely worth shouting about.

ORDER THIS: Hoisin duck and spring onion and cajun chicken, avo and rocket are combos we just can’t get enough of. For those with a sweet tooth… the pizza party doesn’t stop there! Make sure you try the peanut butter, jam and M&M calzone.


Cena, Yarm

WHY WE LOVE IT: This glossy Italian eatery in Yarm promises sophisticated slices from brunch through to supper. It’s a chic and inviting hangout boasting beautifully-crafted favourites with tasty twists, including their much-loved artisan stone-baked pizzas straight from the oven.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: Cena’s stone-baked pizzas hit the spot – whether it’s a simple margarita, a meat feast or a plate of smoked salmon slices. Other dishes include all your pasta and risotto favourites, salads, lamb chops, sirloin steak, sea bream and more.

ORDER THIS: Our favourite pizza showcases beef fillet, gorgonzola and white truffle aioli. Gluten-free, lactose-free and vegan options are also available, meaning nobody misses out!


La Pizzeria, Malton

WHY WE LOVE IT: Go to the gourmet town of Malton for a no frills pizza party at La Pizzeria. This rustic, easy-going spot showcases a dome of a wood-fired oven and an overall ‘good to be here’ vibe. The pizza oven looks the part and delivered the goods in terms of the dream pizza.

WHAT’S ON THE MENU: A tempting menu of all your favourite pizza toppings, as well as specials and combos you’d never have thought of. All can be made gluten-free for you, too. Quality ingredients are at the forefront of the pizzeria and there’s a Neapolitan thoroughness to the creation of authentic pizzas.
