We cosy up at lovely Lucker hideaway - Millstone Cottage. A place for cosy nights in and your best sleep yet...

We love the cottage’s whereabouts; super accessible, whether you’re travelling from the north or south, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Lucker is a teeny-tiny sleepy village, lying just five miles from Bamburgh and three from Budle Bay – one of Northumberland coastline’s most sought-after sandy spots. You won’t find a lot here (only an old church and a little inn next door), but that’s all part of the hamlet’s charm. It’s wonderfully peaceful and effortlessly picturesque too – especially in the winter. If relaxing, frosty walks and cosy pub lunches are your kind of thing, you’ll be pleased.

The cottage began life as a flour mill (hence the name), but following a snazzy refurbishment in 2017, it’s now a modern, ridiculously-comfy, cottage, big enough for six. Set on two levels (lay your head on the quiet ground floor and socialise, eat and drink on the first), it’s far bigger than you might think. The living space is as snug as can be; plush sofas and chairs to sink in to, an open fire to sit and sip by and a sweet dining table to feast around. Keen cooks can get to work in the glossy, fully-equipped kitchen, complete with electric oven and hob, large fridge/freezer, microwave, crockery, washing machine and dishwasher. A perfect night here, if you ask us, involves dimming the lights, hopping into your PJs, cracking open a bottle of red and watching a Netflix film on the big flat screen with home-cooked nibbles.

How comfy the beds are – no, seriously. Whether you’ve nabbed bedroom one, two or three, prepare yourselves for  a cracking night’s sleep. Two boudoirs boast king-size beds, while the other offers two singles, all of them perfect with fresh linen sheets and the softest, thickest, marshmallow-iest duvets and pillows. They come with en-suite bathrooms, too (two with showers and another with a bath), mini flatscreen TVs, fluffy towels and more. We also love the little inn next door (quite literally ten steps away), the Apple Inn, which serves up great food and ales. It’s dog-friendly, too, and you get discount off your meal when you show the friendly staff your key fob. There’s also a pizzeria place opposite the cottage, if that’s more your thing.

There’s a small garden area (to the rear) with patio table and chairs and there’s enough parking for two cars. You can also head over to Beau Monde Leisure Spa (very nice indeed) for a free one-hour swim, or 60-minute gym session. Beau Monde also has a beauty salon and all cottage guests receive 5% discount on hair and beauty treatments on production of their key fobs (excluding products). Oh, and there’s Wi-Fi and central heating throughout. Groups of more than six needn’t worry; Millstone is next door to Old Mill Cottage and together they can be interlinked, creating a wow pad for 11 guests.
