THE POSH POOCHES OF LUXE

We're celebrating National Dog Day 2018 with a look back at some of the poshest pooches to take to our Luxe pages...
THE POSH POOCHES OF LUXE

ALFIE

GOLDEN RETRIEVER

Alfie is a super stylish Golden Retriever from Hutton Rudby. As well as being our top pooch columnist, he enjoys chasing rocks, Sunday swimming and summer staycations with his family.

LUXE WALKS…

Carlton Bank, running through the woods, jumping in the ponds and bumping into doggy friends at the Lord Stones Cafe.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

A day out with his girlfriend Bella the labradoodle from Stokesley. They enjoy chasing the waves together on Saltburn Beach followed by sneaking in a scrap or two at the Fish and Chip shop. Aaah.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Downtime is snoozing under the coffee table with his favourite teddy when all of the family are home after a long walk through the fields chasing rocks and sticks.

HOUND HABITS…

Alfie is obsessed with rocks. He is a pooch of many habits but his love for rocks definitely tops them all. If he doesn’t return from a walk with an overly sized rock wedged between his teeth, he will sulk until he is presented with one. (Some walks are rock free and it is an utter nightmare!)

PUPPY PAMPER…

Being a retriever he doesn’t tend to check in at the salon very often, but upon his last visit he was mistaken for another Alfie dog and was completely shaved. He looked like a huge, fat seal but the family still loved him. He’s as fluffy as ever again now!

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

I’d love to say I (Elysia) am his best pal but it’s got to be his girlfriend, Bella. He spends most weekends with Bella and has looked after her since she was a tiny puppy. They enjoy beach walks, swimming in whatever water they can find (even the smallest of puddles) and Sunday morning treks up the Cleveland hills.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

We had friends coming round one Saturday evening and I nipped Alfie on a quick walk through the fields. He usually has a brilliant call back, but to my surprise, Alfie was missing. Knowing the fields like the back of my hand I knew he hadn’t found any water to soak in… perhaps he was digging for his beloved rocks. No. Alfie had found the biggest bog ever and came home a half-white/ half-black retriever.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

Big, boisterous and slightly clumsy, Alfie would have to be Louis Spence.

HENRY

COCKER SPANIEL

Little Henry is a cheeky Cocker Spaniel from Ingelby Barwick. He’s a trickster who keeps everyone on their toes, he’s a golf fanatic and enjoys a cuddle with mum and dad, Malcolm and Karen.

LUXE WALKS…

My favourite place for walks is the path that runs along the golf course. I find lots of golf balls and usually find something to bring home and add to my collection.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

I love a trip to Saltburn with one of my girlfriends Dotty, a Cocker Spaniel from Guisborough. We run for hours and swim in the sea. If I’m lucky I get some fish and chips and sometimes some ice cream before heading home!

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

I love to snuggle up on the sofa between mum and dad and if I’m putting on my cute eyes, I sometimes get a cuddle on their bed.

HOUND HABBITS…

I have to have my scrambled egg as soon as I have had my early morning walk, and I love to pinch things so that mum and dad play chase with me.

PUPPY PAMPER…

I like getting brushed, mainly because I get treats for being a good boy. Do these salon places do treats? If so, I’m there!

PUPPY A-LISTER….

Maybe my likeness to an ‘a-lister’ or a celeb would be Madonna as I love to get my paws on mum’s bras and somehow manage to get in the arm holes so it looks like I’m wearing it! Or my mum calls me and my dad Malcolm and Wise (Morecombe and Wise) because she says we are a double act.

HOOKER & YOUNG

ENGLISH BULLDOGS

Hair stylists Gary and Michael of Hooker & Young, are busy when it comes to pooch life at home. We’re remembering this cute bunch of bulldog pups – a small collection of their 14-strong canine family.

POSH POOCHES

LUXE WALKS…

We have land so our pooches enjoy an outdoor life, but we also live in the middle of a nature reserve so we have many lovely walks on our doorstep too.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

They love going out together and are not really bothered where that is, they just love being together like one big happy family.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

They all get so excited when we get home on an evening as they like nothing more than a night in front of the TV. They all have their favourite spot where they like to lie.

HOUND HABITS…

All of our pups have their own funny little ways! It would take forever to list them all, though. Bailey, one of our Great Danes, talks to us every morning –  the funny thing is, we can almost understand her!

PUPPY PAMPER…

Most of our pooches are short haired, so Ashleigh, our dog nanny, pretty much takes care of all the grooming.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

I think it’s fair to say that all of our pooches are slightly obsessed with Ashleigh. She spends all day every day with them so has an incredibly strong bond. Ashleigh actually says that her best friend is Bailey the Great Dane.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

We’ve had so many dogs over the years, with some amazing memories made along the way – from winning at Crufts to breeding the top-winning Great Dane of all time – to some lovely funny moments with some great characters.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

Again, that’s a tough one when you have 14 dogs! Saying that, we have quite a lot of divas in the pack, so I reckon we’ve got a Mariah and JLo amongst them!

HARVEY & HUGO

YORKSHIRE TERRIERS

Top dogs Harvey and Hugo are the ultimate role models for any ambitious entrepreneur. The duo are CEO and Chairman of PR and Marketing firm, Harvey & Hugo Ltd. It’s safe to say, Harvey and Hugo have made it… we take a look at their day-to-day endeavours as professional pooches.

Harvey says he is the magic behind the agency. He enjoys studying quantum physics in his spare time. Hugo, on the other hand, enjoys the simpler things in life… eating jelly and sleeping. A treaty tennis ball will prompt him to open up to negotiations during business.

POSH POOCHES

LUXE WALKS…

Harvey: I love taking in the rich heritage and beautiful scenery of Richmond. A paddle in the river is refreshing after a trot on the cobbled streets.

Hugo: Any big muddy field!

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

Harvey: Cooked breakfast at Gleneagles.

Hugo: Mine would be Wimbledon – I LOVE tennis balls!

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

H&H: We both love snuggles in front of an open fire.

HOUND HABBITS…

Harvey: I’m very greedy and steal food.

Hugo: I love rolling in fox poo!

PUPPY PAMPER…

Harvey: I love a warm bubble bath with soothing lavender aromas and a blow dry at home by my personal stylist.

Hugo: I find a roll in warm fox poo very soothing!

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Harvey: When gran was looking after me she accidentally left the food cupboard open. I got in and ate all of the food!

Hugo: I got a bowl of jelly for my birthday.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

Harvey: Hugh Grant

Hugo: Steve Carell, particularly when he played Brick in Anchorman.

BELLA

LABRADOODLE

Bella is a two-year-old Labradoodle from North Yorkshire. She’s cheeky, chirpy and just loves a cuddle. Her luxe things in life include walking up the Cleveland Hills and spending time with her best friend, Alfie.

POSH POOCHES

LUXE WALKS…

Bella loves a walk up the Cleveland Hills or along Redcar beach, but has recently enjoyed a trip to the Scottish coast of Elie.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

A walk along Redcar beach in the summer months; a quick dip in the sea, a throw of a ball and she may even sneak in a chip or two and the end of the ice cream cone.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

She loves to snuggle up on the living room armchair, which boasts a ‘reserved for the dog’ cushion. She likes to while away the afternoon, snoozing and keeping an eye out for visitors.

HOUND HABBITS…

Bella is a bit of a softy. If she has misbehaved, she will cry and put on the old puppy eyes until we humans fall for her tricks. You’ve got to give it to her… it works every time.

PUPPY PAMPER…

Being a super fluffy Labradoodle, the poodle in Bella requires a lot of grooming. She checks in at the puppy salon once a month to keep her looking fine and feeling fresh.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

It has to be my best friend and Luxe columnist, Alfie!

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Being brought home for the first time and being welcomed into my new home in Stokesley. In the same day, I met my best friend Alfie and we hit it off straight away.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

It’s got to be Miranda. She’s bashful, a heffalump, clumsy and just wants to be loved!

NOODLE

DASCHUND

Noodle’s dreamy puppy eyes have captivated more than 26k followers on Instagram. Behind the scenes, she’s living it up in the big city with her human companion. You might find her strutting down the King’s Road in Chelsea or playing in Hyde Park after a Saturday brunch. This city-girl is a fun loving, face -licking social media addict whose snaps promise to brighten up anybody’s day. Follow her Noodle-y adventures on @noodlethedachshund.

LUXE WALKS…

My favourite place to take a walk is on the wild side in Richmond Park, sniffing out the squirrels!

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

My idea of good holiday is truffle hunting in Toulouse. Failing that, if the is weather is bad, nothing beats chasing a sausage in Frankfurt.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Downtime is for losers – I’m an uptime girl!

HOUND HABBITS…

I’m bit of a narcissist and addicted to Instagram selfies.

PUPPY PAMPER…

I get my nails done every now and then; otherwise I’m an au naturel sausage! #TooGlamToGiveADamn

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

The camera is my best friend.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

When Mark Wright from The Only Way is Essex gave me a kiss! #Swoon

PUPPY A-LISTER…

My celebrity double would be Pippa Middleton. We’re both brunette, look good from behind and have a great pedigree!

ZIGGY STARDUST

CAVAPOOCHON

Ziggy Stardust is a cheeky Cavapoochon brought up in the big smoke, but her favourite thing to do is visit the North East to see her new big brother, Alfie. She loves packing up her city handbag and getting her paws stuck into the Yorkshire countryside. From the Cleveland Hills to the long beaches of Saltburn, it’s safe to say the North East has been a hit with Ziggy Stardust.

LUXE WALKS…

I like to chase my tennis ball around Clapham Common. I tend to interrupt several picnics along the way and if I’m lucky I might even bag myself a party sausage, a crisp or even a sip of fizzy wine.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

I visited my friend Alfie on a holiday to North Yorkshire. We swam in the sea, jumped in the rivers and ran through the fields. It was very different to dodging the red buses and black cabs on Clapham High Street.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…
Chilling in front of the television and barking every time I see another dog on the TV.

HOUND HABBITS…

I can’t help it but I’m super cute so can get away with being mischievous. Check out my Instagram page and you’ll see what I mean. People think I’m a curly teddy bear and just can’t tell me off.

PUPPY PAMPER…

As you can see, I’m an uber curly pup so I check in at the doggy salon as often as possible. I get lots of attention and treats so I love it. And even better, I come out looking and smelling lovely – everyone smiles at me in the street.

DOGS BEST FRIEND…

Everyone I meet on a walk becomes my best friend. I’ve been told I have a cheeky charm and it just works.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Drinking champagne at the pub with my mum and human friends in the summer. I get lots of attention.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

I get called the Queen of Clapham, so I guess I bypass the celebrity status and become royalty? Suits me!

SKYLER

MINIATURE LABRADOODLE

Skyler is the Lady of the Hall, the perfect wedding planner and a pampered pooch all rolled into one. Alfie pops down the road to visit Rudby Hall, roam the grounds and catch up with the lovely lady.

POSH POOCHES

LUXE WALKS…

I love to hop, skip and jump my way through Rudby Hall’s wild flower bank by the river. It’s very pretty all year round, but my favourite time is spring when I can jump in and out of the lovely daffodils.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

France! I have family out there that I really love to visit as often as possible.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Cuddling with the children after a nice long walk.

HOUND HABITS…

I roll over and lie on my back, waiting to be tickled. And it works every time!

PUPPY PAMPER…

Just for Dogs in Stokesley for a healthy hydrotherapy treatment now and again.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

Our tamed parrot, Monty. He tweets away and we keep each other company when our human family are out or busy hosting beautiful weddings.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Jumping in my sister’s arms when we first met. It was love at first sight.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

I’m the Lady of the House – so any royalty.

ALFIE

SHIH TZU

Alfie is an eight-year-old Shih Tzu with a bit of a reputation. Three years ago, he was brought to the vets to be put to sleep for repeated aggressive outbursts. Whilst waiting for his appointment, he met Darren and Joanne Davison who asked if they could give Alfie another chance.

Twelve months of back-to-basics rehabilitation and Alfie eventually had totally chilled out. His original family were keen to keep up with his progress, so a Facebook page was set up where Alfie posts about his adventures and often answers questions from owners of other dogs with behavioural issues. A local hero who can now be a role model to many a mischievous pup. Stay tuned on his poochy Facebook page here: facebook.com/alfietheangryshihtzu.

LUXE WALKS…

I love to explore new places, but the beach is my favourite, especially if there is a lemon-top on offer!

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

After a nice long walk, my perfect day would have to include a visit to one of my favourite local micro-pubs such as The Golden Smog in Stockton or The Hambletonian in Norton. I also love a visit to Wags & Whiskers Canine Café, where the staff serve ‘woofins’ and other doggie treats. If I was feeling extra social, a trip to Newcastle to hang out with the cool kids in Lola Jeans, the rooftop bar at The Botanist, BrewDog bar, or The City Tavern – so long as there were plenty of treats and people to fuss over me!

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

A lazy Sunday full of daytime dozing with my humans. The perfect recovery day after my many adventures…

HOUND HABITS…

If people make the effort to talk to me, I think it is only polite to talk back. If new friends are making a fuss of me and then stop to talk to my owners, I will let them know I wasn’t finished being fussed over. Woof!

PUPPY PAMPER…

Reagan at Pampered Pupz in Billingham takes care of my beauty regime. I don’t like the bath, but it’s worth it when my coat is all clean and I can go home and roll around in every room!

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

We have a very cheeky ginger cat living with us who thinks he is my best friend. But joking aside, my two best friends were Indi, my sister who I used to live with, and Billie, the old Border Collie who helped me settle into my new home before she passed away. I miss them both very much but I know somehow, in their own doggy ways, that they are keeping an eye on me.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Catching the train to The Orange Pip Market at Baker Street, Middlesbrough last year. We sat outside watching the bands, meeting all the nice people, and munching on gourmet scotch eggs from The Clucking Pig!

PUPPY A-LISTER…

Being a bit of an internet sensation myself, I would love to have millions of followers like Marnie the Dog or Norbert. But If I had to be a human, it would be a funny guy like Keith Lemon or a celebrity chef like Jamie Oliver because, if you haven’t already noticed, I love my tasty treats!

BELLA

SHIH TZU

Bella joined the family to cheer up her owner Kelly when she was struggling to write her final thesis at university. She was very good at encouraging her human friend to go out for some fresh air, and if it wasn’t for that, Kelly would never have met her husband. Since then, Bella has been a well-photographed model, a bridesmaid, an opera star, and has even been immortalised in the form of a handmade ceramic jar.

Despite all of this, she has remained quite humble and likes nothing more than relaxing at home with her hair in a messy bun. Bella even took the Sunderland Empire stage in the romantic opera, La Boheme. Quite the celebrity…

LUXE WALKS…

Bella loves to walk on the beach, especially when it’s sunny. She’s not keen on the waves but loves it when the tide is out because she can splash in the rock pools.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

Her favourite day out is her annual trip to the Great North Dog Walk, which holds the World Record as the largest dog walk ever held. She gets to enjoy a long walk with lots of other dogs and is also given treats at the finish line!

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Bella relaxes by sitting in the window and barking at everyone who walks past. She particularly likes to bark at Tigger, the ginger cat who lives next door. Sometimes she looks out of the window, and sometimes she hangs her head over the window sill and lets her whiskers waft in the warm air rising from the radiator. When she eventually drifts off to sleep, she snores louder than any dog her size should be capable of.

HOUND HABITS…

She has a special sad face which she uses when she wants to convince people to give her treats. Cheese is her favourite; nobody is allowed to have cheese unless they share it with Bella. She would rather dehydrate than drink stale water, so she has developed a technique of patting her foot when she wants people to refresh her bowl, and of course, she must have her whiskers wiped afterwards. Bella also likes to fetch the post after the postman has been, although she hasn’t quite mastered the art of handing it over without tearing it up.

PUPPY PAMPER…

Bella gets groomed at home because salons have a tendency to chop her ponytail off. She has a weekly bath and definitely knows how to splash. Her ponytail is groomed regularly in different styles such as a pigtails or plaits, and she has more hair accessories than her mum.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

Bella’s best friend is her owner, Kelly. She was bridesmaid when Kelly got married; she did an excellent job of walking down the aisle and even received a blessing at the end.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

When she was a puppy, she was out for a walk when a small girl approached. The child petted Bella, then looked up with a sincere expression and asked “is it a bear?” – everyone collapsed with laughter and ever since then Bella has been known as Bella Bear.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

If Bella was a celebrity she would be Elizabeth Taylor. She’s a diva who loves glitz and glamour, wearing beautiful accessories and being the centre of attention.

JEFFERSON

MINIATURE DASCHUND

Jefferson is a rather cheeky Miniature Dachshund. He has the puppy eyes to manipulate and get his own way, and is an extremely inquisitive, attention-seeking pup with a talent for seeking out mischief. The little sausage might be small in stature, but this doesn’t stop him laying claim to being man of the house. He’ll also do anything for treats, especially cheese!

LUXE WALKS…

I love my walks. A nice leisurely stroll through the park, on the beach or running around the woods. Anything goes really… unless it’s raining – you won’t catch me out in the wet stuff! Not a chance am I wandering around with soggy little paws. A sunny stroll would be my choice. Hopefully getting to chase some unsuspecting cyclists and finishing off with an ice cream with the old folks.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

My perfect day out would be a ride out to King Edward’s Bay in Tynemouth to meet up with my brother, Robson. It’s such great fun. We never get bored of lapping the beach and keeping our little paws out of the waves of course. We have a lovely hipster lunch at Riley’s Fish Shack before leaping back on the beach for more cheeky antics. When I get home I’m ready for a long snooze. I’m always tired the next day too – my version of what you lot call a ‘hangover’ I guess.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Downtime for me has to be cuddles with mam and dad. I’ll work my way onto the couch then find the most awkward position possible and then it’s doggy dream time. Some say I snore a little, but I don’t believe them. I’m too cute to snore.

HOUND HABITS…

Looking cute. Is that a habit? I do also have a habit of stealing socks and I’m really good at hide and seek too. I will sneak upstairs (I’m not allowed upstairs) and find an odd sock to steal then go hide. Simple really. Due to this habit, I seem to have acquired the nickname of ‘Dobby’ – whoever that is.

PUPPY PAMPER…

I do very little pampering. I look this cute when I wake up. I find a bath with some doggy shampoo with a little aftershave on special occasions works a treat.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

My brother Robson. As soon as we see each other we have a little wrestle then we run around after each other like crazy hounds. We often take a break and stop for a snuggle and a power nap then playtime resumes. Ahh, a dog’s life!

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

My fondest memory would have to be snuggling with my favourite ted as a pup. I loved him so much his stuffing came out. Then I loved his arms off. And eventually his head. Oh I miss my ted…

PUPPY A-LISTER…

If I was to be likened to a celebrity it would have to be Prince Harry. A handsome red head who is a huge hit with the ladies. And the fact that he is royalty just makes this the perfect suit.

PENELOPE

WHIPPET

Penelope is a beautiful blue Whippet who came to Newcastle at eight-weeks-old to be a family pet. From the age of nine weeks she had promoted herself to head of the house and has since used her big eyes to get anything and everything she wants. Although built for speed and agility, she’s far more likely to be found snoozing on the sofa under a cosy blanket.

LUXE WALKS…

Everyone who I meet thinks I like to exercise. But in truth, I’m not a huge fan of walking. I do do it, I’ve been up Cat Bells and High Spy before, but it’s not my thing. I much prefer to run. I’ll run on the beach, through the woods or even through the long grass – I do love the long grass on my belly.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

I have to say my perfect day out would be a trip to the beach. I’ve been to beaches all over the country, but Longsands in Tynemouth is my favourite. The day would start with me in the back of the travel machine, where I can snooze and store energy for playtime. At the beach, my mum and dad will take turns throwing my ball with the ‘chucka’ – that makes it go further! Sometimes I play with other dogs, sometimes I pop in the sea for a dip, but mostly I just want to chase my ball. After playing on the beach I often get an ice cream, no flake though – I’m not allowed them.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

I can sleep for 18 hours a day, so I have a lot of downtime. I have a Charley Chau snuggle bed – a big, cosy fleece-lined pocket that I can burrow into to make it dark and warm when nobody is around to tuck me in!

HOUND HABITS…

Shivering. I shiver all the time, so I often wear a coat. People say I shiver because I’m thin, but really, I just love shopping for clothes like every other girl!

PUPPY PAMPER…

Even though I don’t smell, I still get put in the bath once a week. Although I pull a face – and shiver – it’s not too bad. I get to go in the big roll-top, use my Aesop shampoo that I got last Christmas, and I have a Paul Smith beach towel to dry on afterwards. I like to think I’m not in the least bit high-maintenance.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

This would be granny. From when I was a little pup, granny has always been there for me. She takes me to the park when mum and dad do something called work, and she stays with me when they’re away on holiday. She always lets me sleep in the bed with her too – but don’t tell anyone, it’s a secret.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Cuddling into my mum’s neck the very first time I met her. I still do it even though I’m much bigger now.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

I’d say, Audrey Hepburn. I act, model and dance, just like she did, and we have the same eyes. You could say I’m a British icon too.

TED

PUG

You might have heard Ted’s owner Steve talking about him on Metro Radio in the morning. Ted the pug is short, shiny and furry with a good sense of humour. His luxe things in life include cheese, sausages, and sleeping. He doesn’t like rain and balloons!

POSH POOCHES

LUXE WALKS…

It has to be the beach. Low Newton is my favourite! I love to feel the sand beneath my paws and breathe the fresh, crisp Northumberland sea air through my lungs. If I’m not on the beach, I like running through the windy paths in Chopwell Woods. It’s a sheltered place for me when it gets too hot. I’m not a big fan of the heat!

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

A trip to the Lake District is a real treat for me, especially if it’s Keswick. There are so many places I can visit, including the shops. My dad can have a quick pint in most of the pubs and I can chill out next to him.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

I do enjoy chilling out on the sofa, sat on my blanket watching Super Vet or House of Cards. My favourite character is Frank Underwood, I’d love to be his pet dog in the White House.

HOUND HABITS…

Where do I start? I love stealing food from plates and I enjoy grabbing hair clips and cotton buds. I will run around the house until I have a treat to release them. Works every time!

PUPPY PAMPER…

My mum gives me a little trim once a week and cleans out my folds in my crinkly face. As I’m a Pug, its important that this happens to keep me clean.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

My mum. I count down the hours until she gets home from work. My curly tail wiggles like crazy as the front door opens and I see her. I can’t contain my excitement and make a strange squealing noise until she picks me up. I’m so demanding!

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

I’m very lucky to have had lots of nice things happen to me. Not long after I was born, my dad had me blessed in Jesmond Dene by a vicar! I was joined by lots of other animals of all shapes and sizes, including an Armadillo. I’ve also presented my own show on the radio and starred in an advert for a dog friendly hotel in Newcastle.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

I admire Doug the Pug. What he has achieved in a few years is incredible! Probably the most famous Pug – possibly dog – in the world. While on holiday in America, my dad even diverted his arrangements to meet Doug at a book signing! He waited over two hours, along with hundreds of other humans to meet him.

ELVIS

BOSTON TERRIER

Elvis is a very handsome (and he knows it) Boston Terrier. He lives in Kirklevington, near Yarm, and came to live his pampered lifestyle aged six and a half. Elvis is a retired show and stud dog from a breeder in Nottingham.

LUXE WALKS…

I love going to Saltburn where I run into the sea so my human can chase me because I’m ruining my designer pirate collar. I love running around the fields with mummy’s other two dogs Hugo and Kane.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

I love going for a walk around Yarm. I like to get fussed from the lovely girls at Jules B. Then we go to a fantastic new pet boutique in Yarm called Zibizi, they sell loads of fantastic things including doggy pick and mix and gourmet doggy ice cream.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

I love to chill out in my Mutts & Hounds donut bed. I also like to lay on the sofa, chair and sheepskin rugs… my mum tells me to get off but I just pretend I’m asleep with an extra cute face so she just lets me stay where I am.

HOUND HABITS…

I won’t let my mum have her breakfast in peace. I annoy her until she lets me sit on her lap. If she’s trying to watch TV and she’s not paying me enough attention, then I’ll stand in the way or sit on the remote control.

PUPPY PAMPER…

I only need a bath when I’ve rolled in the fields, sometimes this can be every day much to my mummy’s delight.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

Mummy of course. Hugo is ok, but I find him a bit irritating as now I don’t get all the attention – I have to share.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Coming into my new home over two years ago for the first time and being allowed to sleep on the bed, sofa and anywhere I liked.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

Tom Hardy. Slightly smaller in size but utterly, drop dead gorgeous.

ROSIE

HUNGARIAN VIZSLA

Rosie is a one-year-old Hungarian vizsla. She is loving, loyal, regal, sociable and attention seeking. Rosie arrived at her North East home at just three-months-old and became a regular at her owner Leah’s hair salon, Hair @ No.4 in Seaham. Rosie is the famous salon dog and people come from all over just to visit her, she greets everyone on arrival and often sits in reception watching the world go by…

LUXE WALKS…

I love the beach. Seaburn is my favourite place to explore. I get to meet all different breeds and I especially love to pose for mum’s sunrise photos.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

I love Sundays – a fab, family day. We like to catch the ferry from South Shields to North Shields where we walk into Tynemouth and visit the market where I can pinch sausages off the tasting stalls. I love to walk along the beach, finishing at Riley’s Fish Shack for some seafood treats.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Dad works very hard as a fireman, so when he comes home after night shift, my brother Eric and I climb into bed for a cuddle – this can last all day!

HOUND HABITS…

I’m very greedy. My human works next door to Humbles Cafe – they like to shower me with lovely treats.

PUPPY PAMPER…

I often go to Tails in Seaham where I get a lovely hot steam bath, a pedicure, a spray of perfume and a lovely bow.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

My walker Hannah and Penny and Boo, my English Pointer bestie. We go all over on adventures. Penny teaches me Bear Grylls-style how to catch crabs and seagulls.

FONDEST DODDY MEMORY…

I remember travelling over from Romania by car and ferry – it took 48hours! We arrived at my new home and I met my older brother Eric – also a Vizsla who took me under his wing from the off.

PUPPY A-LISTER…

If I was a celebrity I would have to be Beyoncè – she’s such a diva, just like me!

ROXY

LURCHER-LABRADOR CROSS

Four-year-old Roxy is an easy-going, gentle-natured Lurcher/Labrador cross. Born in Cumbria, she loves the outdoors, scrambled eggs and cheese – but can’t stand fireworks or baths. She lives in Whitley Bay with her family, The Auchterlonies.

POSH POOCHES

LUXE WALKS…

I live at the coast, so I love nothing more than a leisurely stroll along the seafront. You’ll find me playing in the rock pools on Longsands beach in Tynemouth most weekends, but I’m quite partial to a few laps around our local cricket pitch at tea-time, too!

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

It’d start with my favourite brekkie – scrambled eggs – which my mum, Maria, makes for me every morning. I’d then jump in the back of the car and head to Seaton Sluice for a long, muddy walk. I’d spend the rest of the afternoon enjoying chewy snacks from the ‘treat cupboard’ in the kitchen – and maybe playing with a new toy if I’ve been good!

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Curling up in the living room, in front of the TV, with the fire on. I have a favourite spot on the sofa – I can’t sit, or lie, anywhere else. If I’m not relaxing there, I’m lounging about on my big, fluffy pillow in the hallway.

HOUND HABITS…

Thursday night is fajita night in my house, which I always look forward to. I’m obsessed with grated cheese and have been known to steal as much as I can get my paws on. Cheddar is a real vice of mine – I can smell it a mile off and always know when it’s on the table!

PUPPY PAMPER…

I’m pretty low-maintenance. I went to a dog grooming parlour once and hated every minute – I don’t like all the fuss. I’m not a fan of baths, either. I’d rather clean off in the sea!

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

Two of my owners – James and Joe – and their little cousin, Tom. We have loads of fun together – we’re always play-fighting and playing games. I like it when they hide treats around the house – then leave it to me to sniff them out. I always find them!

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

Moving to the coast from Carlisle as a pup was scary, but it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I’ll always remember my first trip to the beach, feeling the sand under my paws and jumping in the sea for the first time. My owners have also taken me out for some lovely doggy pub lunches in the past. I’m a big foodie, so they stand out!

PUPPY A-LISTER…

My family love a bit of old-school rock music, so any of the big bands, from Guns N’ Roses and AC/DC to Led Zeppelin. Bryan Adams is up there too – he’s my mum’s guilty pleasure!

PEPPER

POINTER-VIZSLA CROSS

Pepper is an extremely energetic one-year-old German Short Haired Pointer crossed with an Hungarian Vizsla. Her cross breed characteristic have proven to be a very challenging combination for her human parents, Adrienne and Michael, who live in County Durham. Pepper is always full of fun and can’t wait for the next adventure.

LUXE WALKS…

I need lots of walks as it helps me focus on what I’m told to do. Apart from early morning and tea-time walks, I have my Aunty Jo who calls in daily. We always have fun as I’m very easily distracted with anything that moves, whether it walk, run, or fly. My nose is often working it’s way along the floor picking interesting smells up or the odd clump of grass.

POOCH’S PERFECT DAY OUT…

If I could have a lie-in on the human bed, this would be a great start to the day. The best part of the day would be somewhere to run off the lead until I’m tired enough to come back. A trip to the local pub would follow, allowing me to get some extra attention with the proven technique of lying on my back promoting tummy tickles. Then it’s home for bed and snuggle time. Doggy dream time.

DOGGY DOWNTIME…

Downtime doesn’t really agree with me. I will fight the urge to rest or sleep just in case I miss something. The only thing that really works is a nice log fire which is guaranteed to knock me out for some hours. I do however quite like a little power nap after a walk with my favourite blanket.

HOUND HABITS…

I can’t turn away the opportunity of a stray tissue, sock or flip flop and can often be found being chased around the house by both parents after claiming one for myself. I am a puppy and that’s what we do. If I can’t find one of those delicacies, a piece of coal or log will also do.

PUPPY PAMPER…

On sunny days I like to take over mum’s hammock and bask in the sunshine getting fed ice cubes to keep me cool. I’ve mastered getting in and out myself after some initial attempts that were apparently quite amusing to others.

DOG’S BEST FRIEND…

Jess is another family four-legged friend and is a Lurcher-cross. She is an extremely fast runner and I try to keep up constantly without success. She’s just moved to the South of France and now living on a river boat in the canals. I’m just waiting for my passport to arrive as we are hoping to visit for a catch up.

FONDEST DOGGY MEMORY…

On my most recent expedition in the VW campervan, we stopped at a beachside site in Galloway. A sunny day at low tide on the Solway Firth meant there was sand as far as my eyes could see. This resulted in running, running and more running!

PUPPY A-LISTER…

I’m only a puppy, so I don’t have an A-lister just yet. My mum and dad think perhaps Cesar Milan. I’m not sure who he is!
