The 2018 FIFA World Cup is in full swing – and things are looking promising for England! This Saturday (July 7), we take on Sweden and if, like us, you’ve had your fair share of footy-filled BBQs over the past few weeks, you might fancy getting out and about this time around to get your fix. Luckily, there are plenty of places screening the must-watch match – whether you’re cheering the Three Lions on with a big gang of pals, the kids, or a couple of the girls, with wine in-hand!
Times Square, Newcastle
Newcastle’s exciting World Cup Fan Zone, inside Times Square, is a great spot for footy-loving broods. Take the kids along on Saturday and soak up the atmosphere, treating them to lunch from on-site street food vendors, or perhaps a shirt or a scarf from the merchandise stalls, before watching the game live on the big screen. Visiting without the young ones? Head for the footy-fuelled beer garden for safe standing and seating – and plenty of craft ale!
Chadwicks Inn Maltby
Fancy a (slightly) quieter one? Then why not head for Chadwicks Inn Maltby for a slightly more relaxing afternoon, fuelled by footy, fine wine and fabulous food. The traditional country pub is the perfect place for girlfriends to gather and catch up, while keeping an eye on the score. Order treats from the award-winning restaurant and treat yourself to a late-afternoon supper while watching the game on the big screen.
Centre Square, Middlesbrough
Screamers and shouters need to get themselves along to Middlesbrough’s Centre Square for some boisterous fun. Get there early to nab picnic benches and deck chairs, or bring your own blankets and camping chairs. Fuel up with hot food, ice cream and soft drinks while you cheer England on.
