Champagne is about luxury, decadence and extravagance. Words that don’t immediately bring Yorkshire to mind.
But the charming, award-winning Yorebridge House hotel has managed to score a massive coup in bringing the prestigious champagne house, Laurent-Perrier, right to the heart of Yorkshire and the tiny village of Bainbridge.
The hotel has become home to ‘The Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle Tasting Room’. A private tasting and dining room created in an exclusive partnership with the famed French champagne house.
It’s a hugely exciting venture for hotel owners, Charlotte and Dave Reilly, marking a real high since they embarked on their journey to convert and transform the historic Grade II listed Old School and Headmaster’s House, dating back to 1850.
Today, Yorebridge House is up there with the best in the country when it comes to accommodation as a multi-award winning restaurant with rooms.
The launch of the Laurent Perrier tasting room is the exquisite icing on an already fabulous cake for the couple, who opened their doors in 2008 undaunted by the fact that they had not had any previous experience in the hospitality world, or that the premises itself had no previous history for hospitality or food.
The collaboration with the famed champagne house reflects the success of the partnership Yorebridge House and Laurent-Perrier have enjoyed since the hotel opened.
“We had felt for a long time that our wine cellar would be an ideal space to convert into a dedicated tasting room. It seemed the perfect partnership to work together with Laurent-Perrier”, says Dave.
”It has been quite a journey, from drawing up the plans, to the actual completion. It’s an old building dating back to the 1850s, so we weren’t sure what we would come across. And there were quite a few challenges to face with the structure of the building, not least getting a beautiful, bespoke and rather large Italian marble table top down the narrow stairs!
“But the end results are way beyond what we first set out to achieve. We are absolutely delighted and know that our guests will love our very special, exclusive Laurent-Perrier Tasting Room.”
The room itself is a tasteful and stylish conversion, offering private dining for up to ten people, who will have their own dedicated staff, and specially-designed menus, with champagne pairing for each course on the menu.
For David Hesketh MW, managing director, Laurent-Perrier UK, the tasting rooms is an exciting venture: “Champagne Laurent-Perrier are delighted that our continued partnership with Yorebridge House Hotel sees the opening of the dedicated Grand Siècle Room. The transformed cellars of this marvellous boutique hotel boast a unique atmospheric space in which to pair the great champagnes of Laurent-Perrier with The Dales’ finest cooking.”
The project signals the start of another stage in the development of Yorebridge House, namely the conversion of The Barn into very stylish and grand self-contained accommodation.
The Barn is set in the beautiful hotel grounds and will be completed by the end of the year. It will be named ‘The Alexandra’, in honour and recognition of one of the daughters of the family of Bernard de Nonancourt, Alexandra Pereyre de Nonacourt, the initiators of the Laurent-Perrier style and range.
