70s soul band, Shalamar, arrive at Newcastle’s City Hall this week, ready to spoil audiences with their unique style, energy, passion and sound that have commanded dance floors all over the world. Bowes Museum is one of four venues in the UK (and the only one in the north) to stage Queen Victoria in Paris, an exhibition of watercolours commissioned by Queen Victoria as a souvenir of her momentous 100-day state visit to Paris in August 1855. Loaned by Her Majesty The Queen from the royal collection, the paintings provide a fascinating insight into the legacy, opulence and pageantry surrounding the momentous trip. The Royal Shakespeare Company’s Matilda The Musical arrives at Sunderland Empire this week, inspired by the beloved book from the incomparable Roald Dahl. Winner of over 85 international awards, including 16 Best Musical, the show tells the tale of a young, smart bookworm who, with the help of one kind teacher, overcomes obstacles caused by her wicked headmistress and adopted family. A must-see for families.
