With last year’s festivities behind us, it’s time to start looking forward. If, like many, travel is high up on your goal list for 2018, then why not consider a mini New Year getaway to kick-start 2018?
A mini city break to York is one of our favourite ways to spend a weekend and if you’re in the same boat, then we urge you to check out Stradbroke Villa – which lies less than 15 minutes away from the city’s buzzy centre.
The modern holiday home, which launched in August last year, dates back to the turn of the century and still retains its traditional good looks (the red brick exterior is typical of Yorkshire Wolds architecture), but inside boats glossy, Pinterest-worthy interiors. The best of both worlds.
You’ll find it in the charming little village of Ellerton – the perfect base from which to explore this pretty part of Yorkshire.
Step inside and you’ll find space for up to six adults and one child. With four reception rooms on the ground floor (plus a wet room), there’s plenty of spots to enjoy a bit of me-time (always a must this time of year) and quality family-time. Snuggle up in the plush TV room and watch a film or settle down in front of the wood-burning stove with a book.
The second living room has cool cream sofas, a roaring open-fire and feature candles – a calming space for a bit of relaxation. Connected is a light and airy dining room where you can soak up the views of the manicured gardens as you sit down to brekkie or your evening meal. Dual aspect bi-folding doors let the light flood in – plus they open directly on to the gardens.
The star of the show is the kitchen/diner, where you’ll discover a stylish shaker-style kitchen, including chic grey units, granite worktops, induction hob and side-by-side fridge and freezer. You can choose between an electric fan oven or a separate steam oven, as well as a warming drawer and grill.
Take a seat at the long dining table and gaze out over the arable fields beyond – through the floor-to-ceiling glass. A patio door to the side leads out on to a modern decked seating area.
Head upstairs and you’ll find all four bedrooms on the first floor – two at the front and two at the rear.
The first is an impressive master bedroom with a gorgeous king-size linen bed, cool grey carpets, pendant lighting and en-suite bathroom. With his and hers washbasins, a large freestanding bath and a large walk-in monsoon shower, it’s perfect for couples.
The second bedroom has a super king-sized bed that can be set up as a twin if requested. With muted greys, a feature cast iron fireplace and twinkly chandelier lighting, it’s a serene and stylish place to rest your head.
The third and fourth bedrooms are located at the rear of the house. A single room with a cabin bed is just the right size for one child, while the final compact double room boasts a gorgeous antique bed.
The family bathroom, also to the rear, comes with slate flooring, feature slate shelving and a freestanding claw foot bath with hand held shower attachment. An additional wet-room on the ground floor gives three bathrooms in total.
Head outside and you’ll see that the front and side of the property has a lawned area and there are attractive raised beds and established shrubbery to the side and rear. There’s also an extensive decked area where you can relax with friends and family on the rattan style sofas and chairs. There’s even a wood-fired pizza oven and firepit.
