ARTIST’S COTTAGE, CRASTER

Packed with quirky character, this cool little cottage is an ideal hideaway for two. Hunker down and escape the autumn chill...

You’ll find charming Artist’s Cottage in the centre of the idyllic fishing village of Craster – home to famous kippers and some of the most soothing seaside views in the region – just a few minutes’ walk from its pretty harbour and handful of good pubs, restaurants and cafés.

The former home of local artist, Pete Green, the cottage is still in the family who have retained a collection of her fabulous original artwork, which you’ll see all over the cottage. The property is furnished in rustic, quirky style, packed with original features, artisan touches and vintage finds.

The sitting room is a cosy spot indeed – and our favourite room. Grab a good book, nab the rocking chair and kick-back in front of the large log fire (logs are provided). Get toasty, roast chestnuts or while-away an afternoon exploring your creative side with a little painting if you’re feeling inspired. If not, there’s Freeview TV to enjoy and a DVD player, too, plus books and games.

The kitchen benefits from underfloor heating and is well-stocked with all the special little touches for holiday living. Feel free to bring your own goodies – as there’s an impressive pantry, with ample storage, ready to fill. Muddy boots and jeans can be cleaned and put away in the utility room, cloakroom or boot room (which is heated) after a day of exploring.

Upstairs, you’ll find two cosy bedrooms, decked out with wonderful antique pieces and finishing details. One is made for two snug sleepers, while the other features two beds that can be pushed together to make a super-king. All beds are made up with high quality bed linen, feather and duck down duvets and pillows.

There’s a family bathroom (with underfloor heating), too, as well as a pretty enclosed cottage garden with a paved sitting area, which faces south and gets the sun for most of the day, making it an ideal place to enjoy that first cup of coffee (or last glass of vino).

There’s parking for one car on the gravelled area in front of the cottage, Wi-Fi throughout and the cottage is doggy-friendly. One furry friend is welcome, so long as muddy paws are kept downstairs.

Artist’s Cottage can be taken on a purely self-catered basis, or a cook is available throughout guests’ stay for breakfasts or dinners only, or to provide one-off celebratory meals for a special occasion. A homemade meal delivery is available in your first night should you fancy it and wine delivery is also on offer, courtesy of renowned wine merchant, Corney & Barrow.
