For decades local markets were the original meeting place for villagers – and this weekend is no different. Northern Dales Farmers’ Market is inviting people to take part in The Great Get Together in memory of the courageous MP Jo Cox by visiting Wynyard Hall’s Farmers’ Market on Sunday 18 June from 9am-2pm.
Once there, visitors will be able to sample selection of artisan foodie goodies, homegrown and handmade by local producers – everything from baked goods, pies, pastries and desserts, to cakes, meat, fresh herbs and more.
No purchase is necessary – the market is free to attend. Instead, organisers are encouraging people to simply turn up, enjoy themselves and meet new people.
The market is one of more than 100,000 events expected to take place across the UK this weekend as part of The Great Get Together – a weekend of celebrations inspired by Mrs Cox’s maiden parliamentary speech, during which she said: “We have far more in common than that which divides us.”
The initiative invites people to get together with their neighbours to share food and celebrate all that we hold in common. It could be a street party, a shared barbecue, a picnic or even a bake off. What matters is that people have fun and the event helps bring communities closer to together.
