ECOYOGA, SCOTLAND

If you’re a fan of yoga, undisturbed sleep, tranquil, leafy views and a gentler pace of living come the weekend, then an EcoYoga retreat might just be up your street.

What was once an old, rusty and empty outdoor space is now a luxury lodge, providing yogis and calm-seekers an ‘eco’ holiday with a difference. Totally off-grid and powered by a hydro turbine and a large bank of solar panels, it’s a place to boost health and wellbeing and revel in a carbon-free, stress-busting weekend.

Accommodation-wise, the Centre offers 13 bedrooms. The main accommodation area has 10 bedrooms, all featuring luxurious super kingsized beds, comfy sofas and small, but chic, bathrooms. The stone bothy has three bedrooms with double beds and a secret hideaway room with two kids beds in. When needed, the main house has a further two doubles and a kids room with bunk beds. There’s also a yurt which accommodates three single beds in a shared space (each bed has a privacy curtain).

Guests can enjoy a spot of yoga over in the glazed studio, which overlooks the gorge of the River Liever and promises dreamy views of the surrounding hills and forest. It benefits from toasty underfloor heating and the windows are usually left open, filling the space with soothing waterfall sounds.

And once you’re done getting your ‘om’ on, you can continue the relaxation in one of the site’s several bathing areas and showers. Inspired by the Japan’s traditional public bathing houses, guests can soak in natural wooden hot tubs in the Dome, or hideaway bathing spots tucked away in the nearby forest or river bank.

When it comes to chowing down after a day of pampering, guests can tuck into delicious veggie dishes (all of which are made with ingredients straight from the site’s organic garden) either in the main dining room, or in the Workshop Cafe. There’s a kitchen available, too, if you fancy cooking up some extra treats yourself.

The team will provide healthy muesli and good old fashioned Scottish porridge oats if you’re in need of a quick, hearty brekkie before a morning of stretching it out on your mat, along with freshly-laid eggs and buttery toast.
