Hang out
“We welcome you to lead the oddest life. Of newspaper flipping, coffee cup sipping, mid-morning brunches and long late lunches. Devouring burgers, polishing off pizzas, good-time people sharing margaritas. Late-night cocktails, something on tap, dance, mingling… simple as that.”
And we did just that. A perfect evening of sharing platters, pizzas, burgers and cocktails.
Foundry Project offers something for everyone, for all tastes and for all meal times. From a hangover brunch to a light lunch and a delicious evening meal, they’ve got it all. A cool, contemporary and brilliantly charming hideout in Harrogate town centre.
Decked out
Loft-style, industrial interiors. The Foundry Project is a cool hangout, effortlessly decorated with steel beams, hanging lightbulbs, plants and mismatched furniture that ‘just works’. Inside and out, the whole experience is insanely Instagramable from start to finish – from the curb appeal to the decor, the drinks and the dishes.
The space is like a Pinterest feed of dreams. Full of cool decor and inspiring interiors. The bar area has an industrial feel – with steel beams, hanging lightbulbs, high tables and stools. The restaurant area is slightly ‘comfier’ – almost country-chic with cosy furnishings and splashes of colour.
Sip
The drinks list is endless – whether you’re looking for a nice bottle of wine to while away the afternoon or to pair with your plates, a cocktail to sip and soak up the sun or a refreshing beer to cool you down.
We kick things off with an Old Fashioned and a Margarita – cocktail classics that they’ve got oh-so right here. From Sunday to Thursday between 5pm and 9pm all cocktails are just £5 – opening the gate to sipping happiness. We sample the wine selection with a glass of Pinot Grigio blush (£5.55) – crisp and fruity with a fantastic freshness.
For non-drinkers and designated drivers alike, the ‘mocktail’ list is worth a punt too! We have The Elderflower Factory (£4.10) for the road. A botanical bliss combining cucumber, mint leaves, elderflower cordial, lemon, sugar and lemonade.
Food matters
There’s not much you can’t have here at the Foundry Project – whether you fancy a light bite over cocktails with friends, or whether you’re checking in for a feast with the whole family. Pizzas, burgers, sharing platters, chicken wings – you name it, they’ve got it on ‘the happiest menu in Harrogate’.
What we ate
We started with a sharing board of garlic dough balls, tomato and parmesan dough balls, nachos, fried pickles with blue cheese mayonnaise and caramel and chilli chicken wings. For £15, it’s the ultimate sharer for a group of friends to pick at.
A fantastic feast packed with all kinds of flavours, it’s the perfect palate pleaser to kick start the dining experience.
Torn between the burger and the pizza offering, we opt for one of each. My dinner date choosing the buttermilk chicken burger – buttermilk fried chicken, spicy coleslaw and little gem lettuce (£9). While I go for the chilli chicken pizza – spicy chilli chicken, red onion, garlic, chilli, sweet piquante peppers and goat’s cheese (£10).
The burgers don’t come with chips, but they’re available as a side dish with a choice of dips and dressings. We oder a bowl of house fries with blue cheese mayo (£3.50).
Perhaps not the healthiest of meals pre beach break. But if one thing is healthy it’s the portions sizes. Unable to squeeze in a dessert on this occasion, the spiced orange cake and poppy seed crème fraîche with Caravan coffee (£6) is on our wish-list for our return journey!
