Romantic, luxurious and set in the tranquil depths of the North York Moors, Coach House Retreat is an ideal rural bolthole for couples looking to escape city life...

The award-winning barn conversion has been lovingly crafted from a character-filled old farm building – and yet its rustic charm remains. Sure, there’s plenty of modern, Pinterest-worthy interiors to gawk (check the bathroom), plus underfloor heating, speedy Wi-Fi throughout and a kitchen stocked to five-star standards, but you still have that escape-to-the-country feel.

Downstairs, the kitchen takes centre stage, complete with gorgeous stone floors, beamed ceilings and quality wooden units. You’ll arrive to a VIP welcome hamper too, packed with eggs, fresh crusty bread and a bottle of wine. Plenty to keep you going if you haven’t made it to the shops yet.

As you’d expect from this standard of property, the kitchen includes everything you could possibly need during your stay amenity-wise. The dining table is also in here, which makes for a cosy, informal space to enjoy dinner by candlelight.

Step through to the impressive living area – a large, light-filled room with bags of space for you both to stretch out and chill – where you can curl up with a magazine (the latest issue of Luxe will be with you very soon!) and catch up on some TV. The stone flooring continues in here to keep you toasty.

Upstairs is where the fabulous master bedroom lies, offering guests a king-size bed, high ceilings, lots of light and, again, heated floor boards underfoot. The en-suite is dreamy – retire to the freestanding roll top bath for a few hours, pamper in the walk-in shower and freshen up via the his-n-hers wash basins.

Outside, you’ll find a large lawned garden and stone patio. Garden furniture is provided, so you can enjoy al-fresco lunches and brunches if the weather’s on your side.

And beyond the garden is the local village pub, set against a pretty wonderful backdrop of the Moors’ National Park. There are lots of lovely walking trails from the doorstep to discover, including a pleasant stroll along the River Dove.

Close by, you also have the fantastic town of Helmsley – a foodie’s paradise, packed with neat tea-rooms, cafés, organic delis and more. It’s also surrounded by some of the best pubs in the UK. The award-winning Star Inn at Harome is worth a visit for gastro-style pub grub.
