Everybody loves a cosy, lakeside retreat this time of year – us included – and Figtree House is up there with some of the best. The stylish 17th century home, near Kirkby Lonsdale, is idyllically tucked away on the borders of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales, surrounded by miles and miles of rugged countryside and rolling hills. Venture down a winding country lane and you’ll find it surrounded by private gardens – not far from romantic waterfalls and sweet picnic spots.
Inside, it’s bold and warm; filled with sumptuous sofas, beautiful wooden beams and doors, modern bathrooms and bedrooms and crackling fires. Choose from five beautifully-designed first floor bedrooms, each boasting the finest linens, iPod docks and views over the gardens and fields beyond. Each of the two king-size bedrooms have en-suites with rain showers. Every room boasts a flat-screen TV, Blu-ray player, Bose sound system and Wi-Fi.
There’s an additional double bedroom which also has views over the gardens, while the two twin rooms are situated either side of the house to the rear. The twin rooms can also be arranged as super-king doubles on prior request and there’s a shared family bathroom with roll-top bath tub and hand-held shower.
The open-plan kitchen provides everything you need to show off your culinary prowess to family and friends. Enjoy informal breakfasts around the chunky wooden table, while the more formal dining room just off the conservatory is the perfect spot for lively suppers. There’s a BBQ provided outside, if you fancy it. Or, if you’d rather spend your break indulging in the little luxuries, let an in-house chef prepare a mouth-watering meal for you and your party (on prior request and subject to an additional cost). The nearby pub, the Plough Inn, is a short walk away in the village of Lupton.
