KATE’S CABIN, NORTHUMBERLAND

5Put us in a log cabin around Christmas time and we’re a happy bunch. Throw in some mulled wine, cosy throws and cashmere socks and we’re in our element.

2This year, hygge hang-outs like Kate’s Cabin, tucked away in Felmoor Park, Northumberland, are taking our fancy. Set in lush woodland, overlooking a quiet lake, it’s a tranquil spot for couples and small families looking for a last-minute winter getaway.

3You’ll find it just off the A1, meaning Northumberland’s market towns, like Alnwick and Morpeth, are nearby if you fancy a bit of shopping. It’s also only a 10-minute drive away from Northumberland’s beautiful coastline – go there for fish ‘n’ chips, pub lunches and sandy strolls around the likes of Alnmouth and Warkworth.

Bedroom-wise, Kate’s Cabin sleeps up to four; two in one double room and two in one twin room. You’ll have to share the bathroom and two small (well-behaved) pooches are welcome, too.

Kick-back in the small, but perfectly formed lounge area – it’s a cosy space, made pretty with Scandi-style wood, chocolate-box style windows and sumptuous leather sofas. There’s a flatscreen TV with Freeview for all your viewing needs, plus a small selection of books, DVDs and games to keep everyone entertained.

The kitchen’s on the small side, but offers everything you need (electric oven/gas hob, microwave, small fridge/freezer, kettle and toaster) to rustle up hearty evening meals and keep you well-fed throughout your break.

Eat inside, or out on the veranda or the picnic benches. Lakeside strolls in the evening are a must.
