Alnwick Garden Christmas Market

For a festive market with a difference, head to The Alnwick Garden Christmas Market this winter, running throughout November and December. Wrap up in your cosiest jumper and join in the festive fun as you pick up stocking fillers in the stalls overflowing with goodies and gifts from Northumberland artisans. Indulge in festive nibbles and join in on the live carol singing from local performers. When day turns to night, step outside to discover the illuminated world of ‘Sparkle’, a magical live music, light and movement display in the grounds. St Nicolas Fayre, York

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and with that comes the York Christmas Festival. This year, as the city is transformed into a winter wonderland, it promises to be the biggest and best one yet. Packed with fairs, family fun and festive events, there will be lots of exciting activities on offer, from The Snowman at the York Barbican, to the panto at York Theatre Royal and the brilliant line up on musicians at the York Early Music Christmas Festival. St Nicholas Fair lines the city’s streets with twinkling lights and wooden chalets offering unique gifts and homemade crafts, wines and cheeses. Scents of hot mulled wine and roasted chestnuts will fill the air as you browse the festive fair. This Christmas, York is the perfect destination to begin your Christmas adventure.


Frost Village Traditional Winter Market

Every Thursday and Friday this winter and during the week leading up to Christmas day, Keel Square will play host to the Frost Village Traditional Winter Market. Boasting an assortment of interior design, crafts, handmade gifts, mead and German street food stalls, it’s the perfect festive day out where you can bag your Christmas goodies. The Merry Monk Bar and Bratwurst will welcome visitors inside for a warming glass of Gluhwein while the kids glide around the ice-skating rink.


Christmas at Beamish

Be enchanted by Christmas at Beamish this winter, where visitors can discover the amazing sights, sounds and delicious tastes of truly traditional festive celebrations. Combining history and festive fun, you’ll step back into Christmas past, joining the celebrations as you explore the 1820s Pockerley Old Hall, the 1900s Town and Pit Village and the 1940s Farm. From ice skating and traditional market stalls, to steam train rides and Santa’s grotto, Christmas at Beamish is the perfect festive day for all of the family to enjoy. You might even get the chance to feed the reindeer.


Winter Christmas Market at Monument

A cosy collection of 50 chalets packed with everything from hats and gloves to boozy Christmas cakes, local beers, gorgeous handmade jewellery and sensational street food. People of the North East are invited browse the stalls this Christmas to soak up the friendly festive atmosphere and pick out some stunning Christmas gifts for someone special this year. The Winter Christmas Market also includes the city’s popular Farmers Market on Friday 16 December.
