Star Cars

Never before had Newcastle seen such a fantastic display of some of the world’s finest cars.

From modern-day supercars to the stars of yesteryear, all gathered together on the UK’s favourite street, Grey Street and around Newcastle’s famous Grey’s Monument. Headlined by event sponsors Benfield, who showcased their Audi & Nissan brands, the NE1 Newcastle Motor Show brought together some of the North East’s most prominent car dealerships with hundreds of private car owners to create one of the UK’s largest free motor shows.

The two-day open-air event, organised by Newcastle NE1 Ltd, delivered a unique experience for the thousands of visitors who brought the city to a standstill as they got up close to some of the multi-million pound exhibits. Many of the cars are usually showcased at VIP, invitation-only events but here in Newcastle they were out of their exclusive showrooms and on display for public enjoyment – and enjoy they did.

The weekend surpassed all expectations with over 60,000 visitors on day one with a further 40,000-plus on Sunday. The event delivered a one-off opportunity to see a number of cars that had never been seen before in the region, including the spectacular Aston Martin DB9 GT, on display in Newcastle on only its second outing in the world, the Aston Martin GTE Le Mans race car and Sebastian Vettel’s Infiniti Redbull Formula 1 race car.

The experience was second to none and plans are afoot to build on the event next year.

Commenting on the success, Stephen Patterson, Director of Communications at NE1 Ltd said: “The event had all the hallmarks for success – but it surpassed all our original expectations – we knew the combination of Grey Street’s architecture and its fantastic mix of leisure and retail businesses would provide the ideal backdrop for a luxury event of this sort, adding some of the world’s most spectacular cars into the mix delivered a unique event. “The success of the motor show is very much a testament to the support received from the region’s motor dealers and private owners who really pulled out all of the stops to ensure the range and quality of cars on display were first class. Planning is already underway for next year’s event and we look forward to releasing details in the New Year.”
