The Geordies joined forces with Cash for Kids Superhero Day in aid of two local charities: Cash for Kids and The Sunshine Fund and helped raise £28,848.
The pair started early, taking over Metro Radio’s and TFM’s Breakfast Show, joining in with on-air games and setting a fundraising challenge for regular breakfast host Steve Furnell.
At the Vermont Hotel they met some of the families and children who have benefited from the charities’ support, thanking key corporate supporters including sponsors Blue Line Taxis and Scoot.
Sweet things
Finger-licking fabulousness gave Mrs Berry and co a run for their money when Teesside’s Butterwick Hospice hosted its very own Bake-off Challenge with local businesses.
Held at Wynyard Hall, the event saw Pam Royle, Eugene McCoy and Duncan Bannatyne show their sweetest side as they munched their way through tasty treats to decide the winning bakers who had created some stunning themed cakes.
Jacksons Law Firm, a corporate partner of the hospice, organised the Butterwick Bake Off. More than 20 local businesses took up the challenge with overall winner Yorkshire Bank’s Tour de Yorkshire cake.
Aim high
The annual Bond Dickinson clay shoot in aid of the Prince’s Trust has raised over £45,000 for the youth charity, a new record for this event. The shoot took place at the historic Lambton Estate in County Durham and featured guest speaker, the comedian and Prince’s Trust ambassador, Omid Djalili.
Jointly hosted by Bond Dickinson with John Holland of J R Holland Food Services, the annual event saw 25 teams compete head to head for the coveted shooting prizes. The teams then enjoyed a 3-course lunch before Sean Pearson, a Prince’s Trust Job Ambassador, spoke of how the Prince’s Trust has helped him. Omid Djalili then entertained the guests and spoke about his enthusiasm for the work of the Trust.
Silent and live auctions also took place with lots ranging from signed rugby shirts to helicopter rides and opportunities to drive a tank, all helping to raise the record amount. This means the event has raised in excess of £150,000 over the four years it has been held.
Jack’s party
A big birthday was a big deal for football legend Jack Charlton, a big supporter of the Bobby Robson Foundation. Jack Charlton celebrated with wife Pat, Lady Elsie Robson and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation fundraisers. Jack is an ambassador for Northumberland Tea which donates money to the Foundation from every box of tea sold.
“It was a lovely surprise to get a cake and to see Lady Elsie again. Bob was a great lad and a very good friend and it gives me a lot of pleasure to support the work of the Foundation whenever I can,” said Jack.
Tee off
Book in for Konect Events annual Mayor of Sunderland’s Charity Golf Day on July 31. The event at Wearside Golf Club, will see teams of four take part in an 18-hole competition in aid of the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Barry Curran’s, chosen Mayoral charities which are: Sunderland MIND, Sunderland Armed Forces Network and NDRC (North East Disabilities Resource Centre).
And if anyone is lucky enough to score a hole in one on the first hole they’ll take away an added prize – a Ford Fiesta Zetec donated by sponsors, Benfield Ford.
The competition, which is an all-day event, will tee off at 9.30am. Tickets are priced at £48 per person or £192 per team of four and are available from getkonect.com/events

Join a Ladies’ Day gathering in aid of St Cuthbert’s Hospice, Durham on 9 August. In place of the annual Ladies Lunch, Ladies Day is an opportunity to sit back, relax and be pampered in the name of an important local charity.

If you’re reading these pages chances are you will have heard one Mr Jason Isaacs perform his ratpack-style jazz at a snazzy event somewhere in the North East. His wife Sharon is organising a Red Shoe Fundraiser in aid of Breast Cancer Care and Maggie’s Centre, Newcastle on 5 August at the lovely Newton Hall in Northumberland. Tenniswoodstock (that’s the couple’s surname) will be the first official fundraiser organised by their new Red Shoe Events company. Sharon is a two-time breast cancer survivor and her business partner Alex lost her father to cancer, so the charities are very close to their hearts. It’s a mini festival with a cause, a celebration of music, a fun day out, sunshine and some well-known guests including Martin Stephenson – and of course Jason at the mic.
