When the urge for sandy strolls and breezy sea air takes over, sometimes all we’d like to do is to escape to a shabby-chic beach hut somewhere. But then, there’s the other part of us that (always) longs for luxury. Grand, but cosy, spaces, filled with chic and comforting interiors, decadent dining spaces and state-of-the-art kitchens and bathrooms for pampering and feasting.
Fortunately, Shepherd’s Cottage, just outside of Bamburgh (six miles away), has all of that. It’s one impressive holiday home, blessed with modern good looks inside, scuffed stone character outside, and breathtaking beachy views of nearby Budle Bay and Bamburgh castle.
You’ll find the cottage, which sleeps up to eight adults, two children and two well-behaved pups, in the quiet hamlet of Adderstone Mains, nestled in four acres of private land and lawned gardens to explore and relax in.
Take a look around and you’ll discover five bedrooms and four bedrooms, making it the perfect pad for big broods and groups of chums. They’re all decked out with king-sized beds and en-suite bathrooms, and some benefit from floor-to-ceiling windows, private balconies and dressing rooms, luxury toiletries, bed linen and sheets, and more.
There’s a spacious lounge area, too, complete with bi-folding doors leading out to a spacious outside decking area. All your usual extras, such as flatscreen TVs, entertainment systems, books, games and DVDs, are also there to enjoy.
Outside, kids and grown-ups can enjoy alfresco dining and entertaining; there’s a three-acre paddock, with serene views of Budle Bay, a play area, a pergola and decked area with seating for up to 10 and a BBQ. And if you fancy a little daytime jaunt, the Scottish Borders are only 30 minutes away, as is the neat little market town of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
