The Angel Inn

If ever there’s a place to retreat on a winter weekend, it’s The Angel Inn at Hetton. Imagine a country-chic setting, fine dining, quintessentially British interiors and a feel-good, Yorkshire charm – it really does have it all.

This Yorkshire Dales favourite is quite simply a delightful place to both stay and dine – and you’ll be incredibly well looked after from start to finish; from the pre-dinner, in-room canapés to a personalised packed lunch for your countryside adventure the following day.

The Angel InnMoments from the magnificent market town of Skipton, a scenic, narrow road flanked by patchwork dry-stone walls will guide you to Hetton – a picturesque village embodying everything you’d expect from a traditional, country hideaway. The Angel Inn is steeped in history, boasting original features throughout. With its cosy snugs, low, beamed ceilings and a menu worth celebrating, it’s on every food-lovers to-do list. The ancient inn has origins which date back to the 15th century, forming the basis of hundreds of years of delicious dining and drinking history.

Food is of the essence here – expect the freshest and finest seasonal produce incorporated into your favourite dishes that will keep you warm after a long day walking in the Dales. A mix of classic and contemporary dishes are shared across the Brasserie and the A La Carte menu. The Angel’s Little Moneybag is an A La Carte favourite – a treasure of seafood baked in crispy pastry and served with lobster sauce. It packs a sensational mix of seasonal seafood into one edible bag of foodie haven. The Angel’s Black Pudding is also a must – complete 7with crispy egg, celeriac puree and confit granny smith.

For mains it’s a beef duo: the Chargrilled Beef Fillet and Chargrilled Sirloin Steak – both served with sauté potatoes, field mushrooms, slow roasted tomatoes and a choice of garnish and sauce. A real winter warmer that showcases the quality of real, local Yorkshire produce.

Something sweet to finish? Try the house cheesecake if you can – on this occasion it’s hazelnut chocolate – perfectly rich with a nutty centre.

If it’s not the food and dinner service that seals the deal, it’s the suites that do. Each room comprises bold, wooden beams finished off with the grandeur of fabulous four-poster beds and local art to celebrate the surrounds. We bed down in the Sycamore Suite – a large, double room on the ground floor of the separate cottage building. It comes complete with living area and modern en-suite bathroom. Wood furnishings, splashes of floral colour, window seats and cosy sofas make up the interiors, while double doors lead out to a small, private terrace with undisturbed views across the crisp, frost-dusted landscape that makes up the Yorkshire Dales. Natural beauty at its best.

The Angel InnAs well as the four county-chic bedrooms found in the cottage building adjacent to the inn, there’s a contemporary barn conversion across the road, which adopts a French country style in its two studios and three stylish suites.

Nestled between the fields of a quiet village close to Skipton, The Angel Inn is the ultimate country retreat – comprising Yorkshire charm and quality service from start to finish.

The Yorkshire Dales is a beautiful year-round destination – but for us, cosying up by the crackling fire in the winter months fits the bill. The area boasts some of the finest limestone scenery in the country, each valley with its own unique character, set against the renowned heather moorland tops. During the winter, the scenery is stunning – you are surrounded by natural beauty, with the finest glistening waters below and the snow-flecked moors above. Wrap up warm and stroll the endless paths, with only a breeze and the occasional sheep for company. Pure tranquility – and the perfect recipe to help you freshen up as we step into the New Year.

Stone-built villages sit amongst the river valleys and expansive meadows that make up the landscape. Spectacular waterfalls and areas of untouched woodland contrasts with the remains of rural industries which represent the area’s rich industrial heritage. Together, nature, people and the past have created a landscape of incredible beauty and glorious, Yorkshire character – a place like no other.
