Going To Church Feeling Like Audrey Hepburn

The Charity Event

Christmas is a time for giving thanks and lending a hand to those less fortunate than us and as a result this is also a time when we find we have more than one charity gala to attend.

Grecian in style, the plunging neckline is very sultry but the length of the dress prevents it from looking overtly suggestive. The rich jewel colours of the earrings draw attention to the face and if paired with an up-do with loose tendrils the whole look becomes incredibly soft.

The Work Do

This is the trickiest of all the parties lined up and always needs balancing like an absolute professional. Despite what the “Boss” says, you cannot let your hair down completely unless you are willing to be the brunt of everyone’s jokes on Monday morning but nor can you appear to be lacking in team spirit.

This dress I think is perfect as it will roll on from the staff party to drinks with friends later without looking too much or too little for both events. The dress could go horribly wrong unless everything else is kept simple and I believe the earrings do just that by bringing the right amount of interest without taking the sparkle out of the dress!

The Xmas Night Out

This one goes down in the diary as “a no holds barred night” whether that applies to the cocktails or the dress. The look is edgy, sexy and everything but subtle and low key. You can literally see the woman in that dress oozing confidence and calling her own shots. She is fun and the live and soul of every party.

Xmas Panto & Dinner With The Family

Christmas just doesn’t feel like Christmas without the mandatory trip to the theatre with the family. We  tend to laugh at the same jokes year after year at the local pantomime and yet it is always the highlight of the evening. Followed by dinner at a nice restaurant and then drinks back at home, this evening is a tradition that I’d hate to ever break away from and so it becomes essential that my wardrobe has been considered for this event too.

When I put this look together my first thought was that it was the right amount of “proper” without being stuffy or boring. I love all the little details on the dress like the girly print, the embellished collar and the pink daisy chain around the waist. The Mary Jane’s with the bejewelled heels and the funky earrings add fun and I know that I’d be quite comfortable if I bumped into my children’s school headmaster and yet feel young and chic.

The Had Too Many Mince Pie Dress

By the end of the first week of juggling work, parties, nativity plays, choir performances and dodging mince pies, the waistline does start to take a beating and so when I chanced upon this dress I knew instantly it would become a saviour. Not the most obvious “party” dress but nevertheless not lacking in the least in fun and ingenuity. If styled correctly, it has the potential to make its mark in any company.
