A CLEAN SWEEP

Say bonjour to balayage this autumn
HyperFocal: 0

Move over ombre, there’s a new
kid in town! Well, actually that’s not altogether true. We’re talking ‘balayage’ – a French word meaning ‘paint’ or ‘sweep’.

It’s been around for some time now, but
has only really started to catch on in a
big way because of the popularity of the ombre technique.
Balayage is, in theory, a hi-lighting technique but allows for a much more natural sun-kissed look.

The balayage technique is largely applied to the surface layers in a freehand way to create a less-is-more result, making it very natural and desirable to many women. It’s a look popularised by celebrities like Kylie Jenner and top model Gigi Hadid.

Our model above had a few natural, sun-lightened pieces around the face. Using the balayage technique we added to what was already there, using some nude shades for a stunning multi-tonal result. The technique can also be incredibly low-maintenance because you don’t get any obvious regrowth from it and, therefore, can wait longer between colour appointments.

Results can be achieved on virtually any hair colour, so most shades can benefit from the gorgeous results it gives; natural, glossy
and expensive.

So, if you’re a bit colour-shy but fancy a little enhancement, or if you’re feeling more daring and want a more striking result, then balayage might just be the colour technique for you. Try it out.
